I found this list of trucking companies to avoid and thought I'd share it.

http://www.thetruckersreport.com/company_warnings.shtml

I cannot personally attest to any of these, but the reputations of the companies mentioned there seem to align with opinions expressed on this board.

Here's a good read about Prime Inc.

http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/024/ripoff0024089.htm#243185

Quote: All the loads I got were paying 72 cents and less per mile. And after figuring in the cost of unpaid detention delays, deadhead miles, reefer fuel, tolls, lumper fees that were incorrectly reimbursed (at less than what drivers are supposed to be paid back), among other things, the loads were paying 50cents at best. Out of that had to come the fuel, the truck payments (double market value), and everything else, ie, qualcomm rental, and messages, accounting services (to get my bills processed by Prime, so I could hope to maybe one day see a paycheck), permits, repairs, maintenance, on and on.... Prime charged the drivers for every fraction of a cent of the cost of running that truck, and more.

Quote: I lost all my savings, and cannot get hired on at any local company. I have no idea why, except that maybe my DAC report was screwed by Prime. I was on time, I didn't get tickets (except one for overlength and one on THEIR trailer that lost the control arm for the airbags/suspension, and they wouldn't pay that).

Quote: I have been a good driver for 4 1/2 years. And I not only lost everything I had, I am about to lose my house too. I was running between 2700-3000 miles a week, and making NOTHING! And now they say I owe them $2200. For what???

Sad that it took him four and a half years to wake up. Do you think his reflexes behind the wheel were better than that? At least now we know the cause of this housing market collapse: Prime Fleece Purchase deals.

I also fail to see how a broken airbag control arm gives you an overlength ticket? Did he mean overheight perhaps, or am I missing something?

Bunch of BS on Prime right there. They pay lease operators 72%. So in order for someone to make 72 cpm Prime had to get them a load that paid $1 pm EVERY DAMN TIME. VERY UNLIKELY.NO I DON'T WORK FOR PRIME EITHER. I know due to research that L/o and O/O are paid 72% of the gross for the haul. Go to the Prime site on the company listings it states it right there and on there website. So I guess we all can chalk that up to whoever posted that on ripoffreport not being honest!

That report was originally submitted in 2002 and at that time Prime was telling perspective suckers they would make, gross, on average 80 cpm for all miles so it is quite possible that this driver was only averaging a gross of 72 cpm and with truck payments of $2000-$2400 per month, insurance, all the fees that Prime charges, maintenance, etc it would be quite easy for him to loose everything.

You are missing something.

The report said he got a ticket for over length and another ticket for a broken control arm.

On the whole though you do need to take Ripoff Report with something of a grain of salt. Those reports are written by drivers who are pissed for whatever reason and many tend to be exaggerated, but there are some that are 100% accurate too. The problem is figuring out which is which.

It's also curious about the truckers report that there are no dates, to judge the recency of the info.

For instance, it talks about the stocks being downgraded -- which happened in 2004.

Some people in this world aren't the brightest bulbs. I find it reprehensible that any company would take advantage of someone like that. Truth is, (as we all know) you don't need to be a genius to drive. That is no excuse to fleece someone. I hope this fellas life turns out ok. Everyone deserves to make a living, as long as they are driving safe and just trying to make an honest living.

Yes, but it is usually easy to spot them. I read a lot of the complaints against Schneider and they were all nonsense. "OMG, I had to work 5 days without A DAY OFF!" "They fired me for getting in an accident", That kind of stuff.

There are dates on each entry made. They are on the RHS of each header.

I've only read the USX one's and those are pretty funny in the BS side. "Oh I ran a team load as a solo driver, delivered an hour early and they fired me. I had 26 hours to get from Cali to Texas. I have done that type of run before and it wasn't a problem." No wonder they fired you when you admitted to it you fool. You just admitted to running a hot logbook on that run and on previous runs. But alas, they fired you for no reason........

Or the one where the guy was fired for having an old empty beer bottle in his truck. He whined of how the company went rummaging thru the truck........uh it's THEIR truck not yours so they can do as they please. Would be no different than DOT doing a complete and thorough search.

Or the lady who had 5 accidents, none were DOT reportable but she believes they fired her because she was mentally unstable and they aren't allowed to do that she says.........you had 5 accidents
