With the high fuel prices these days do companies still let you idle to stay comfortable while sleeping?

Our company hasn't mention anything yet, but in the winter I use the bunk heater, so the only time I idle is in the summer at night if its hot or if I eat in the truck.

yes, they do allow it, but do their best to discourage it...for the most part.

My company has certain idle time percentage goals for each month that you have to stay under to earn a bonus. This number is as high as 35% in the middle of the summer, as they recognize you have to stay comfy out there.

Some companies also install APUs in their trucks, and do not permit idling at all. When I got my APU put in, they reset my engine computer so that the truck WOULD NOT idle...a sensible precaution considering many drivers have the bad habit of idling for the hell of it, with no good reason for doing so....

TomB985...Are you are with Roehl, right? How did you manage to get an APU? Were you one of the original 18 APU put on over a year ago or are you a trainer? Just wondering since when I left them the company was still not sure if APU's were the right way to go.

Roehl recently got a big grant from the state of Wisconsin to put APUs on 50 trucks. Depending on who you talk to, Roehl purchased another 50 or 100 Thermo king tripac units from Transport Refrigeration out in Plover, WI.

Supposedly, if things go well with them, they are going to keep buying them as fast as they can get installed... :)
