Hi All,

I have a 2003 freightliner century S60 detroit 12.7. I noticed that oil is comming from the drier and think I will have to change out the air comprerssor and drier.
?? Is there any major tricks to watch out for or special tools needed to swap out the compressor??

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

as they get older, some compressors begin to pump or leak a little oil into the system. i drove one like that for two years or so. someone else is still operating the vehicle with no air comp. issues. i put a little hose on the dryer to redirect the oily discharge away from the fuel tank. i would probably change the filter on the dryer as this is often an over-looked maint. procedure. i have a bendix, you just pop the top of the drier and spin the old filter off. you may need a strap/filter wrench or a pipe wrench. 'reman' filters are available on ebay for some pretty reasonable prices.

Excessive amounts of oil passing through the compressor will quickly ruin an air dryer dessiccant cartridge.

If there is a major amount of oil being ejected from the air dryer then install a new or reman compressor and install a new dessicant and purge valve kit in the air dryer.
