It's for company trucks only. No pets here.

That's a good one bluebeetle. I haven't laughed that hard in years.

I have to grant you this, you are a loyal company employee. You toe the line just like Mr. Tom wants you to.

BTW, why is it always the driver who has to give up something and never the other employee's?

They should ban smoking in company rigs. The smell is horrible and it is a fire hazard and it is killing you.

That's a quote straight out of Hitler's playbook.

I'll point you to Godwin's Law. I fail to see how banning smoking in company trucks (which, to be sure, many slipseat daycab carriers have done) has any relation whatsoever to genocide.

Hitler wasn't just guilty of genocide he implemented a lot of laws designed take away peoples freedom for the "good of the whole". It's a cornerstone of Nazism. As far as what Godwin thinks, who the hell cares?

I dont know if any of you guys remember this or even read it......They had an interview in the PILOT magazine of the CEO from Crete, MR Ostergard???
He stated that he is HOPING for an economic downturn, because when people LOOSE their JOBS it brings them into trucking, as an answer to the driver shortage. That statement made me very upset last year. Well the economic downturn???? Here it is.........................I hope he is happy.

That's certainly true, but so has George W. Bush. It's actually a cornerstone of totalitarianism, despotism, fascism, and several other -isms, too. People use Hitler's name for the shock value, and because of the association with other things (like killing millions of innocent people). So Godwin's Law states (essentially) that the first person in an online argument to cite Hitler or Nazis in a way that is hyperbolic or fallacious in nature ends the discussion and loses the argument. QED.

Most CEO's are heartless...that's the way they think...He also so know there will always be a shortage because they will always pay OTR drivers CRAP for the hours and responsibility that comes with the job.

Agreed bluebeetle. I'm an owner op and just put in an application to buy another truck and was told that they were inundated with applications and it could be a couple of weeks before I got an answer.

The fact is it is their truck, their money, their rules. Sort of like living back home with the parents and with them paying the bills.

I don't think that's at all --fare, Karnajj- do you know how many Shaffer Office employees and shop personal LOST their jobs-- were told right before Christmas-- they were going to lose their job right after Christmas! therefore THEIR children probably didn't get a good Christmas( since Mom or Dad were soon to be without a job or money or MEDICAL COVERAGE.
It's the TOP which always have "golden parachutes' all others ARE expendable and make sacrifices. They even took out the coffee pots from the NK office.

Yeah, I second that-- and we drivers think just like those Grown Kids living-"sponging" off our parents--- we THINK we're running the show and get whatever we want...

come to think of it........I haven't been able to get my 19 year old to do 'crap' around the house at all.

Then let the owners drive the trucks...

And front he words of Donald Trump, "YOUR FIRED!" And the crying starts, oh mister CEO, I didn't mean it! What, I can driver your truck like you want, I won't gripe anymore, Oh please don't fire me!

Get a grip people, grow up! Take responsibility for your own decisions and destiny, and quit blaming the company policy manual!

You signed an agreement to abide by company policy when you signed on with _______________ (fill in the blank) outfit! And most every agreement I have ever seen, has a clause that states the policy's are subject to change and adjustment as seen fit by the management!

Obviously you know how to read and write, otherwise you would not be on this forum!

Just be glad you do not work for the airlines! Number 4 in two weeks filed for bankruptcy yesterday! Guess what, those slick overpaid union contracts go out the window in most cases under Chapter 13 proceedings! I can just hear the sting no when the first mega carrier files for bankruptcy, coming soon to a forum near you!

The pet news has not been widely disseminated yet, but I had been hearing rumors for a few weeks. The scuttlebutt going on in the drivers' lounges and truckstops is that it was due to AMS employees complaining about having to clean out trucks. I did hear a terminal manager mention a couple of months ago that pets were causing idle/fuel issues.

For some, pets are a sanity/quality of life issue. For others, not so much. I had planned on bringing a dog onboard, but I'm very unlikely to bail on Crete due to that. Other than pay and lengthy training period, the other thing I looked at was rider policy. Crete's is a mixed bag.

It sucks that my retired mother and unemployed brother can't ride along for a few weeks. I know my mother would get a kick out of it (at least until her first truck stop shower). OTOH, for children and grandchildren, Crete seems to have by far the most liberal policy I was able to find. VERY young kids allowed if spouse is with you, and when I was looking, their minimum age for kids without a second parent along was pretty low. My kid will be seven this summer, which lets him ride a Crete truck without his mother along (considering the divorce, that's probably a good thing) and he would have been unable to ride at some of the companies I looked at.

The biggest issue to me that this shows is Crete's difficulty with communication. I read EVERY Qualcomm message that came onto any trainer's truck (including payroll inquiries) and I know that I never saw anything about pets. There were a few other things that I have seen that drivers were informed about via messages sent home. Yet at least 3 times per week, you get an inane message about a safety meeting or a missing trailer. It is clear that the company has the infrastructure to keep drivers informed of potentially big changes (pet policy) but does not use it. If I'm out for 1, 2, 3 months at a time, how useful is a letter sent to my home? If I'm running and not hanging out at terminals, how useful is a memo posted there?

At times I wonder if Tonn (isn't it Tonn, not Tom?) and some of the others in Lincoln are wholly without understanding the life and lifestyle of an OTR driver. I'd bitch more, but: I'm the FNG. Also, from talking to others, they are moderately better than the rest. And their pay, if you get the hours, covers many other shortcomings.

You hit the nail on the head when you talk about communications. Crete is absolutely horrible at it. It took them 3 days to tell us anything about the Florida accident 2 years ago. In the mean time rumors are flying about what the possible implications were going to be. Several drivers quit in those 3 days because they wee certain that Crete was going out of business. And Lincoln sits on their collective asses and says nothing. Sometimes I think I work for the CIA instead of a trucking company.
