| not sure it will happen but this one seems more likely to than all the rest i've heard of. I've heard much about it on the cb and many local tv channels have mentioned it but if you want to make an impact we need to do it for several days to a week |

And what is it with the date "April, 1st" that keeps screaming at you "IRONIC"
i wouldnt hold your breath too long waiting for a shut down especially on APRIL FOOLS DAY
you wont get two truckers to agree on anything. throw a buck in the fuel island you might see unity for a slight moment, but then its gone. |

A shut down will get no ones attention in Washington or the Oil Companies!
You want to get the attention of the government, shippers, receivers, oil companies, the general public, etc!
RUN COMPLIANT!!!! 100 % - Do the speed limits, run the right lanes, log all time at the shippers and receivers, you know the drill.
When freight is not arriving on time at the shippers and receivers, because they held you at a dock for 8 hours, or you block the docks because your clock ran out they will notice!
When you start running the speed limits at all times, hold the right lanes and start clogging up the already congested freeway on and off ramps, the public will notice and want to know what the H is going on! And the oil companies will notice because you fuel consumption will go down, since your trucks will get better mileage!
State and Federal Law enforcement will notice since they will not be shutting any trucks down for log book violations and the rest areas, truck stops and other parking areas will be full of compliant trucks.
Next, burn the phone lines down to your elected officials offices, once a day everyday with thought out and polite observations, thoughts and requests. This will get governments attentions!
BUT WAIT!! Dang, I forgot I am doing this on a trucking forum! And I will now get a gazillioin flame messages, because nobody believes that these things will help! OH well, keep whining, complaining, and saying shut down on this forum, as you have done for the last couple of years. As NO one is listening, except, for the other CB chatterboxes you hear on 19 everyday!
Oh, another note! The big trucking companies, the JB Hunts, Schneiders, Swift, etc are just waiting for a big shut down, so they can swoop in and take the spoils at a cut rate! Then when those that shut down decide to go back to work, it either will not be there, or the rates will be lower than they are now! |

There have been several big media outlets picking up on this, according to OOIDA. The April one deal seems to started with a Cattle hauler that has gone from 10 to 1 trucks. This was the date he sent to a local newspaper. Other dates from anytime from April one through June.
Some have viewed it as an April 1 deal! But again, a shutdown, even if a million drivers participated for one day, will not accomplish anything, since the big guys will keep running!

Even if the big guys stopped running also it still wouldn't do anything, because it would be business as usual on April 2nd. The only shippers or receivers that would suffer would be the "JIT" ones. And a single day isn't going to make or break them either.
I can see the April Fools now, saying "Yeah? Well how about I just not earn anything for one day! That'll show you who's the boss!" |

Yes sir, that is a fact! I still wonder when this is all going to come to a head, and the economy chokes hard!
Ran between Houston and Waco, Monday through Thurday this week, just back and forth! Fuel in Waller at the Loves started Monday at 3.989/gallon - when I fueled Thursday morning, it had dropped back to 3.839/gallon at the same fuel stop. Flying J in Waco was 3.789, thursday and the Pilot in Robinson was at 3.819/gallon. So for whatever reason there was about a 10 cent a gallon drop this week.

| so what are you saying, grease up and enjoy the ride, or how about everyone putting their heads together and coming up with, a well planned and productive solution, long or short term, that will not hurt the working public. |

I cant think of a way that a transportation strike won't hurt the working public. |
