Well, we are now officially out of the o/o business; and it wasn’t astronomical fuel prices, poor surcharges, lack of miles or cheap freight that finally did it. Last night we happened to have load going to Orlando for this morning so since we had a few hours to kill, we decided to stop by the house to do laundry and catch up on mail. At 15:30 we parked in our paid for parking spot ten miles away, loaded up the laundry, my computer and the cat in the van and headed home. We returned at 04:30 this morning to find big hole where our truck and trailer had been. The bastards had apparently thought my 2003 Pete 387 and a load of Sharpy markers and paper clips were worth the risk of any potential prison sentence they’d get if they got caught. Since we were only going home for a few hours we didn’t empty out the truck, so we lost everything… satellite radio, two mp3 players, digital camera, two inverters, back-up notebook computer, scanner, printer, $2,000 cash and, the worst part, my wallet, which I had inadvertently left in the truck. It took me five hours on the phone and computer to get all the credit cards cancelled. Then a trip to the DMV to get my license replaced and then the Social inSecurity office to get my replacement card ordered.
The insurance company will pay up, but will take at least thirty days to do it. In the mean time, I have to figure out how to pay for the house we just bought and haven’t even moved into yet, as well as all the usual bills.
If you see a short, fat guy with a shaved head panhandling at the truck stops or exit ramps over the course of the next few weeks, be kind and pony up some greenbacks, huh?

It happened to me and its a real nightmare.
At least you were covered
Most people don't realize that they need a seperate rider for unattended vehicle cargo insurance.

Well, the trailer wasn't ours. They had a tracking device in the trailer and were able to recover it by 08:30 in Hialeah, FL, cargo completely intact. I suppose the thieves must’ve been pretty pi$$ed off when they found out what their booty consisted of. I imagine it’s pretty hard to sell paperclips for crack cocaine on the streets of Miami. No tractor, though. The FBI said that Hialeah is the number one destination in the country for stolen cargo and commercial vehicles… go figure. After doing a little Googling, I found out that in October of last year, a truck with a load of ATVs was stolen from the very same parking lot and found, where else, in Hialeah also with cargo intact and no tractor.

I'm really sorry to hear that this happen to you but this happens more often then truckers like to admit. A friend of mine had his truck stolen twice and one of his trailer taken and loaded with garbage.

If you decide to get back in the game Have a Revelco system installed next time theives try to take your truck they will end up leaving with maybe whatever items they can grab and run off.
