MM, there's 26 pages to that thread right now. No one here disagrees that there is a reason to protest. But the only good comment to come out of that was heading to DC and dropping the trucks to 15 MPH. Now, I'd wait until you were about 50 miles out, but I can't imagine a more effective demonstration than having 100 or so trucks lined up and heading to the capital at 15 MPH. Be a good way to get things fired up.

Quote: Wait I thnk you missed a few even dumber let me go find them or ya and post those too.

I don't think we have enough bandwidth here.

lol... ya... Come on, a big spender like you. Plenty of bandwidth..

Oh there is a few good ideas but of course the most outlandish get the attention.

I like that one too. unfortunatly I don't think anyone would ever get anywhere near the white house.

there is much to loose by doing nothing and nothing to loose by writing your papers, your congressmen, anyone who will listen. Sooner or later someone will take notice.
I think asking for government to step in and slap oil companies and brokers on the knuckles and make them play nice is about the worst idea in the world. I would LOVE to see transparency in brokers fees though. That is my "radical" wish.
In the end my truck is old and decreped but it is paid for so it will be here when everyone else is in bankruptcy and the rates go back up!!

DC is where you want to protest. Period. That's ground zero. And you don't have to be at the White House, but you can certainly take up a lot of street parking nearby. :) Then hike on over to Pennsylvania Ave with lawn chairs, coolers, and signs. Stake out the sidewalks and protest away.

Ya, that's a good point. See that's what I mean. Some guy spouts up and says "Park them in the rose garden" and then from that second on nobody takes anything seriously..... And you know all our social skills are oh so well refined in this industry... j/k

It just gets so darn disapointing when I think of the life we had carved out of trucking 15 years ago compared to now. It's the job I love to hate and hate to love.

SLOWING DOWN by 1 to 5 MPH would be the most beneficial overall. The oil companies and the small group of GIANTS (GM even stated it in Unsafe at any speed, have control over capital hill!) C-O-N-T-R-O-L the government!

What will lead to the most beneficial outcome:

1) Complaining (striking, protesting, etc., etc.)

2) Finding ways to operate more efficiently 'till some of the overabundance of wannabes (and big time spenders) start calling it quits and rates start climbing.

Too many trucks, broker's FUN day. Wasting fuel (high demand) = higher prices. The laws of supply and demand CANNOT be manipulated in a FREE capatalistic government.

We need to summon in some economist and start using our idle time more effectively.

God Bless

I guess you haven't been paying to much attention to the market. The high oil prices are the result of manipulation, by investor groups representing retirement funds, by oil company employed commodity brokers, and by "Foreign" investment firms.

I have seen all over that trucks are parked and being repo'd. they just can't do it anymore. Brokers are starting to say they can't get loads covered ad are asking if we are already striking.
I don't like the idea of a strike. It's a work stopage because we just flat out simply can not operate any more. Guys have been dipping in there reserves for a long time already an now every little repair is a ctastrophic event and it shouldn't get that way.
FOr god sakes people STOP hauling cheap freight it' killing everyone. If you can't get a load to cover your costs and pay you then don't haul the thing. If you haul it the rates will ever come up.
I say we need a large public display to inform the people of what is going on. We need action and we need to get it covered by the press

Well ya need to tune ol Rev n his England er I mean LS ""BCO"" truck to this idea since he recently hauled 1 for 65 cents a mile total !!!!

you have a big problem with HOODS for some reason what are you mad your not driving one or something?? I know a good bit of o/o that run hoods and are doing ok. Running a hood vs. a aero truck is not going to brake you. Like i said before if you are running a hood and that is making you broke then you got bigger problems.

I couldn't have said it better myself !!! This """Person"" must be stuck in a bus type cabover ""U-G-L-Y"" truck makeing 30 cents a mile ??? That must be his dream truck that he posts a picture of that he can't have n bashes the rest of us that have 1 ???? That is if he is a driver at all ????

No matter what speed we drive,...hood or aero,....non of it makes a difference if we take cheap freight. I probably have the best fuel mileage a truck can get,...no truck/trailer payment,...even I can't make a profit on $1.60 per mile or less.
I think we should stop taking anything that is less than $2.00 per mile.
The truckers blame the brokers, the brokers blame the shippers,......let that crap sit on the docks for a month,...then we will see who is at fault.
I actuall saw a load today 45,000lbs of lumber,..full tarps,3 stops roll for $1.05per mile????? who the hell is taking this stuff??

DD,
It went from Delmar NY to Charlotte NC (last stop) it was 710 loaded miles.
I don't know who took it,....all I know is it went off the load board 10 minutes after I called on it.
I called to check,(just to see if it went) and the guy told me the load was covered.
It probably was an $0.24 per mile wonder, thats what Stevens was paying me 8 years ago,....its the only way to do that kind of a run.
