When it comes to International dumptrucks (10-wheelers), why is it that most of them require half the length of a football field just to turn around? Are they cheaply made, or is there a way to adjust them so that they can turn sharper? (I've seen a few 10-wheelers that can turn pretty sharp, and all of the shorter 6-wheelers can turn good too). :?: :sad:

Check that the stop bolts on the steering knuckles which contact the front axle I beam at full steering travel are not adjusted too far out, but as with any issue involving steering or brakes, consult a professional if you're unsure of how to adjust these.

One thing that you can do is take one end of the drag link off and count the rev. in the steering box. Mark center of the wheel with a piece of tape. Using that as a ref. point turn the box all the way to either the left or the right and count the turns. Divide that in 1/2 and that will give you the center of the box. Your steering wheel should be centered at this point. Then hook up your drag ling again and count the number of truns to the right and then to the left. If it is less than what you counted with the drag link disconnected than adj your wheel stops.

I know of one Concrete company around me that intentionally sets the stops so the truck can't turn as sharp. The owner claims it reduces the chance of a roll over. Not that I agree with him but if your truck is used the previous owner might have adjusted them for a similar reason.

if you change the stop bolts on the steering spindles you also need to reset the hydraulic stops in the steering box. and that is best left to someone that knows what they are doing
