Dads surgery was on Wed; that went fine, but everything afterwards has been rough. He wasnt waking up well at all, and hes been terribly dehydrated. Also the oxygen levels in his blood are very low. He has been in ICU this whole time. Today tho, they were finally able to take out the breathing tube, and my brother showed up to surprise dad (he had just flown in from Iraq, on leave for 15 days), that really cheered him up, his face lit up and he smiled as big as he could. This has been so hard, especially since hubby is on the road, but luckily will be home tomorrow and we'll go see dad (then I wont have to drive; I am a country girl and the city driving makes me crazy).

I'm glad to hear the surgery went well. Comming out from being under is different for everyone and is no reflection on his over-all health. I wouldn't sweat that too much.
I really admire you, as you have stood strong during a very bad time. People like you are what made this country what it is today. You were faced with a challenge, you met it head on, and you did what you had to do. Sometimes you ladies at home are the REAL un-sung heros.
Please for me; shake your fathers hand and thank him for all he has done and do the same to your brother, for all he is doing. Let them both know that they will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear about all this, Shyykatt.... but, things will be okay! I have a friend who's been living with colon cancer for many years now! You just have to stay on top of it! How old is he?

He'll be 85 in a couple weeks. They tried to put him in a nursing home, but he'll have nothing to do w/that. Hes home now, and a nurse comes a couple times a week. Hes getting better, the only real problem now is his blood- iron and electrolytes are still very low. Im taking him back to Mpls. on Wed. to get his staples removed.

Just an update; he had to go back & stay @ the VA a couple more weeks (a different VA this time) had an infection in his foot that went into the bone and they were going to amputate it if antibiotics didnt work; well, his leg is still swollen & everything but they say it is healing. His latest problem is his breathing, for some reason he is short of breath a lot and has panic attacks b/c of it. They did some more tests and a catscan and found 'something' on a lung; we havent gotten the results back yet. He came home on friday, which was also his B-day, and the day our colt was born. Dad has also lost an incredible amount of weight; he was a big fella and now so frail and lost most of his muscle mass. Im just afraid of what that 'something' on his lung will end up to be.
