I actually do once in a while catch a compliment from a female driver. I dress nicely and always look like a professional, never like a slob. Never.

I take the compliment for what its worth, even though I am probably one of the biggest flirts on the planet. Don't open the door too far though...

Oh. Wow. Were my flirting days ever to be over, I fear that it would be that point in life where there were several people sadly standing around as dirt was thrown over my box.

If I deem that a compliment is in order, I always start by saying "This is a compliment not a come on, but you look very nice, smell nice or etc". Then I go on about my business.

As far as if they are not friends or family don't give a compliment! That is one of the problems facing our society today, we are afraid to say anything nice to the opposite sex unless it is family or friends!

I'd only be confused and need therapy...if you flirted with me mommee.

But compliments...I'll always want to hear.

...and spank me when I'm bad.

That's a good way of phrasing things. At least the person will know your intentions or "non-intentions".

....what was the question again?

Oh yes.. "How do you give a man a compliment without him thinking that you are interested in him or are hitting on him? It seems if you want to say something nice about their clothes or looks, they usually end up getting the wrong idea.."

[Subtle injection of compliments....see what I'm about to do?]

That is a great topic by the way. More people should consider making others feel better, and this speaks well of you. I really appreciate kindness like this, as it shows strong character. No matter how lousy the day one is having, a simple heartfelt compliment can make a huge difference. No matter how simple a compliments sounds, when it is given freely, it's chances of being passed on are greater.

Once you begin to develop ways of complimenting, you begin to feel more in control of the expression you wish to paint. I showed some subtle strokes. But learn how you express yourself best. For me...it is obviously with humor.

[humorous compliments make you laugh and one feels twice as good]

So my art of complimenting generally is based upon my gift of expression. If I wish to compliment the opposite sex, and want her to be flattered or not want her to be flattered...I have developed my art. Humor either way puts people at ease, or allows me to control the expression I wish to portray.

Think of compliments as an art form. No two people are going to communicate exactly alike. Compliments are expression, mainly in communication. But don't forget the overall picture speaks just as loudly. I can compliment with no words what so ever. From a simple smile, and placement of the eyebrows. Just think of all the different smiles you can express, and what you convey. Body language is also part of communication.

As a comic...I have learned timing. Sometimes you should choose the right moment. It is just as well sometimes spontaneous, but you should keep timing as part of the equation. It's said; timing is everything.

I don't compliment as much as I should, but I do offer compliments regularly, and more than average. As with anything, practice makes perfect. It is a life long learning process, we always have room to grow.

Sometimes it is for my own well-being, as I know when ever I make someone else feel better, I feel better myself. So, you can also find spiritual reward, because what you are doing is giving. This adds a huge ingredient to the art of expression.

Most of us learn it first by how someones compliment to us makes us feel. How did they give it? What made it work on you? Ever get a bad compliment? It all begins to add up. When you are a child, you seek compliments from your elders. I wanted more than anything to have my Dad compliment me. He rarely ever did. Don't let this be you. Look around, someone is wanting your approval right now.

Insincere compliments are just short of an insult...and I am sure you know the caution here.

I hope to not avoid giving compliments, because I consider it too great a risk. You can't live life like that. I mean you can, but life could be so much richer, with spending little to nothing, but some of your own time in learning to develop a simple ...yet almost lost art of communication.

In considering complimenting the opposite sex, if you find this more challenging? Then focus your art in this direction. For it to work positively, it has to be from your own heart. I compliment women all the time, who I do not wish to take my compliment wrong. I do not want to hurt someones feelings with a mixed message any more than you...or have someone stalking me. Females should not think men do not share some of the same concerns as women.

Usually not much harm in a compliment, at least not more than an apology or explanation can fix, and we all have to offer those after a dinged compliment at times. Life is always a challenge.
