:D Well after two weeks of looking, false hopes, and speculations the Arkansas Razorbacks finally hired a new football coach yesterday. Bobby Petrino, former coach of the Louisville Cardinals and the Atlanta Falcons, was introduced at a press conference last night in Fayetteville. He got tired of the Falcons with all the Michael Vick stuff and decided to return to the college ranks. We're excited and are looking forward to the 2008 season. GO HOGS GO!!

Yeah, I was reading about that last night. What a bombshell! Falcon's owners have got to be beyond p.o.'d right now. But you can't fault Petrino. He took over the Falcons with Michael Vick as a QB and a legit shot and turning them into a super bowl contender in a very short time. Look what he ended up with? Falcon's are in a sad, sad state of affairs. Can't blame Petrino for bagging them and going back to the college level.

Good news. Well, I wondered why Bobby Petrino resigned from the Falcons. I had it in the back of my mind that he had Arkansas in his sights. That explains everything.

Blanks selling point for Petrino was "The Falcons have perhaps the most talented Athlete in the NFL at QB. You can take him and this team to the next level and win a Super Bowl." At that point, it would have been a pretty good deal. As stupid as Vick is, he was freaking insane on the field and you can see the draw for Petrino. But to come from perhaps one of the most offensively successful college football teams into what the Falcons turned into? I'd have left, too.

Great hire on Arkansas' part . If they still had Mustain they would have one hell of an offense next year . As it is , they still will improve .

:D You got that right TF! Vick just generally screwed up the Falcons and it's gonna take a long time for those wounds to heal. 8)

:D The thing about Mustain was last year he felt he wasn't getting enough playing time. His mother, rather than let her son handle it himself, took it upon herself to go OVER Coach Nutt's head to Frank Broyles, the AD. Mustain was doing a great job except he threw an interception (or it may have been two, I can't remember) against South Carolina and got benched and that's when the whole thing started. So he gets mad and quits the team and goes to Southern Cal where he sat out this year (NCAA rule) but doesn't realize that at USC he's just another number and there are a lot more QBs just as good-or better-than he is. 8)

You know, it's almost rather comical to read the stories popping up now about Petrino going to Arkansas. Blanks is beyond ticked, players are calling Petrino a yellow coward and worse, and the whole organization is up in arms against him. Sure, leaving with 3 games left in the season probably isn't the best way to do things, but seriously, can anyone blame him?

Let's break this down.

Blanks hires Petrino, handing him a team that is primed to make a serious run at a Super Bowl within the next couple years, because of what Michael Vick can do on the field. Say what you want about his QBing abilities, he was getting better and when you compound that with is athleticsm and mobility, he added an offensive threat second to none in the NFL.

Petrino comes in and Vick goes down. Now what does Petrino have? A team without a field leader and bench-riding hacks for QB's. Harrington? Leftwich? And who the hell is Redman? Did I miss anyone? Oh yeah, there's Matt Schaub. But wait, Blanks, in his infinite wisdom, decides to trade Schaub to another team. That one will rank right up there with one of the dumbest moves in NFL ownership history.

So Petrino is handed a guaranteed failure of a team with no hope of being anywhere near playoff caliber for several years or more. On top of that, you have players that don't like his style of coaching and players that continue, to this day, to defend a dirtbag like Michael Vick. There isn't a coach in the world that would stay put under those circumstances, especially when an opportunity like Arkansas comes up.

This could have been avoided, too. As devastating as the Vick thing was to the team, there is no shortage of good, capable young back-up QB's out there that the Falcons could have immediately gone after in hopes of salvaging a mediocre season and having something to build on. A draft pick here or there and they would have been laying the groundwork, something to keep their coach in place. Instead, they get Harrington. Then they get Leftwich. Then Redman?

Sheesh.

Bottom line, if Blank and the Falcons want to be mad at someone, they need to get off the Michael Vick bandwagon and label him the dirtbag loser that he is, instead of defending him every chance they get. The fact that the Falcons are in the position they are and that they lost their coach, rests SOLELY on the shoulders of Michael Vick. This is his baby, not Petrino's. As it stands, rather than stand up and accept the reality of the situation, the Falcons are coming across like a bunch of whining asses looking to blame their woes on someone that had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Screw the Falcons. They've shown themselves to be a classless organization from the top down thru the players. I hope they lose for a long time.

:D TF, that's one of the best-if not the best-posts you've ever put on the board. You ever think of getting into politics? 8)

Couldn't do it. I have too much common sense and scruples to ever be a successful politician. :)

Just remeber this about Petrino. He signed a 5 year (?) contract at Louisville and bailed after 1 year to go to the Falcons. He signed another 5 year contract in Atlanta and bailed after 13 games!, didn't even bother finishing out the season. Here's hoping he doesn't do the same thing to you folks down in Arkansas the minute yet another "better opportunity" arises....

Petrino had every right to leave Atlanta, the owner would not support him when things got tough. Arthur Blank allowed DeAngelo Hall and others to openly rip the head coach every chance he had instead of siding with Petrino and benching them for a few games. The players had already quit on the season and are now trying to make politcal statements on the field, ie: the Free Vick shirt on one player, instead of trying to still win games. When the players and owner are against you, why hang around?

I bet McFadden would be wild in Petrino's style of offense if he stayed.
