hey folks,
you guys are great with answering questions....as i understand....you are "supposed" to drain the water out of the fuel regularly. regularly being at least once a week. i drive western region and do not want to take any chances.
the thing is, the mechanic at my terminal said i should NOT drain the water out of the fuel from the seperator. he said THEY do this during the service and drivers should not do this. i acted surprised and asked why not? he said there is a possibility of not tightening the drain all the way and you could ruin the engine.
So, should i drain or should i not drain the water from the :?: ....confused.
I think i should and just make sure the drain is tight afterwards. |

| If a company mechanic told you not to touch it, leave it alone. The bottom line is talk to his supervisor and get something in writing if possible. That way when the companies truck ever suffers from water in the fuel to the point it causes a problem you are covered. Where I work we have to call in to get permission to make a brake adjustment if we find that it is out of spec. |

The bottom line is that you should follow your companies policy on this. You can keep an eye on it and if it is looking full stop into a company shop and let them do it.
If you are caught doing unauthorized maintenance on company property it could easily lead to termination. |

if they service it at the proper intervals, it will easily remove all the water and you dont need to worry about it. the new ones we have dont have the drain on them anymore and I have never had a problem, they change it at every oil change. |
