| I was at my girlfriends house 1st time i ment her dad and i wore my hat at the dinner table when i eat dinner there. He didnt say anything to me about it. But later he told her that he didnt like me wearing the hat at the dinner table. No big deal next time i will take it off it is his house and i have no problem respecting his rules. But i see no big deal at all about wearing a hat at the dinner table my dad always wore his and so do all of my other friends. So do you take your hat off or leave it on??? |

| Take the hat off when you eat at someone else's house. It shows you have manners and will be some great brownie points for the future father-in-law :D |

I don't either (see the big deal).
I guess you could look at it this way. If your wearing jeans and a tee-shirt, hats are fine. If your wearing khakis and a nice shirt, hat probably wouldn't go well. I really think taking off your hat is a respect thing. To our generation it's no big deal but it might mean something to the baby-boomer generation. |

I always remove my hat before sitting down to eat; never really thought about "why', it just felt right.
If that's the worst thing that your G/F's dad has to complain about, then he's had a pretty good day!! |

When I go to eat at the Mo-in-laws place nobody wears a hat at the dinner table, so I dont either.
Picnics and BBQ's are a different story.
I didnt wear a hat at the table when I was a kid either. Its just a matter of the level manners someone was brought up with. |

I dunno, but I was of the opinion that a "gentleman" always removes his hat upon entering any establishment?????????
Some of you southern ladies & gentlemen might be able to add your opinions. |

I am surprise that anyone would have to ask that! There are some resturants that require you to remove you head gear and not talk on your cell phones while dining!
Not trying to be mean but I take it that you are not Ex military with a questoin like that!
"Hats at the dinner table is go TACKY"
Why do people with big back yards and a privacy fence allow their kids to play in the front yard or store all of their junk on the front?

| Depends on the situation. If you're just out with friends or hanging around the house with the family, leave it on. Anything else, you always take it off. |

| No matter what the senerio, Indoors/Outdoors, restuarant, or meeting the future In-laws., one thing is for sure, taking the hat off will not "offend" anybody or breach any etiquette. |

| there is alot of people that take it off. I thought that more people left it on. O well am still leaveing mind on but hey to each there own. But i will take it off at other peoples houses unless there wearing one. |

| I don't take my hat off when I go in a building but if I'm at a sitdown restuarant, I take it off when I go to sitdown. I do it more as a show because I see so many who don't take them off. I put it back on when I get up to leave. |

Well, I take my hat off when I walk into someone's house. I take my hat off when I eat, whether I am at home, or anywhere else.
When I was a kid, and we went to my grandparents' house, if I wore my hat for any length of time, my granddad asked me if my head was cold. Dad would make a jesture for me to take off my hat. |

| I don't wear hats, but I do consider it proper to remove it when indoors. Outside at a picnic is fine. But Didn't Tom Jones say "You can leave your hat on"? Or was it leave a light on? I don't remember. |
