I know the fastest and probably most accurate way to find this out would be to call the DPS in the morning, but I'm mostly just curious. I've been thinking about adding a Passenger endorsement to my license for a little bit now to allow for some flexibility, but something in the back of my mind said I had to retake a road exam with a bus. This could, however, just be my mind making random crap up....:lol:

Anyone know if in the state of OK if you have to retest, or just take the written exam?

I guess I have to disagree with the rest of the group.

Per http://www.dmv.org/ok-oklahoma/apply-cdl.php#Endorsements Quote: Endorsements
To be licensed for certain types of commercial vehicles, extra testing is required. If you pass, you will receive an endorsement on your CDL. These are the five endorsements that you can apply for. Each requires between one and five knowledge (written) tests, and two require driving (skills) tests.

* T?Double/Triple Trailers (knowledge test only)

* P?Passenger (knowledge and skills tests)

* N?Tank Vehicle (knowledge test only)

* H?Hazardous Materials (knowledge test only)

* S?School Buses (knowledge and skills tests)

Notice the endorsement for 'P' -- (knowledge and skills tests)

i agree with previous post. i always hard you had to take a driving test if you want the passenger endorsement. but for a passenger permit you only need to take the written (of course)

Thanks for the replies guys. I had thought a new road test was the case, but hadn't really pulled up anything on the ok dot page. Eh, generally I prefer cargo that doesn't talk back anyway!

This is what my license looks like. All i did was the written. No driving. I thought it was just the written test but in PA it is both. If i would have knowed that i would have never even took the test. It puts a Rstr. on your license. If you just take the written.

Can't say that I know the answer with any degree of certainty, other than it is probably different State by State, but would you willingly get into a bus as a paying passenger, knowing that the driver has only demonstrated an ability to pass a written test?

A knowledge and skills test is required to obtain a Passenger Endorsement. See: §383.93 Endorsements.
Quote: (a) General. In addition to taking and passing the knowledge and skills tests described in Subpart G of this part, all persons who operate or expect to operate the type(s) of motor vehicles described in paragraph (b) of this section shall take and pass specialized tests to obtain each endorsement. The State shall issue CDL endorsements only to drivers who successfully complete the tests.

(b) Endorsement descriptions. An operator must obtain State issued endorsements to his/her CDL to operate commercial motor vehicles which are:

(b)(1) Double/triple trailers;

(b)(2) Passenger vehicles;

(b)(3) Tank vehicles;

(b)(4) Used to transport hazardous materials as defined in §383.5, or

(b)(5) School buses.

(c) Endorsement testing requirements. The following tests are required for the endorsements contained in paragraph (b) of this section:

(c)(1) Double/Triple Trailers — a knowledge test;

(c)(2) Passenger — a knowledge and a skills test;

(c)(3) Tank vehicle - a knowledge test;

(c)(4) Hazardous Materials - a knowledge test; and

(c)(5) School bus - a knowledge and a skills test.
