I'm curious do you as a truck driver think that a lane on all major highways should be designated as strictly a trucking lane?... Do you think if this was done, that this would help, or hurt traffic flow in heavily traveled areas?...

In observing many times small convoy's of trucks traveling in the center lanes of area highways... In your opinion is it easier, safer, for you to be traveling with other big rigs in front of, and behind you?... Or, do you prefer a variety of vehicles, 4 wheelers, etc.?...

Doesn't matter. I'm sure four wheelers would use trucks only lanes to shave 0.007 seconds off of their commute.

I don't think it would have that much chance to be truly positive, and it seems to have a high potential to wind up negative, when they enact a new law that says TRUCKS MUST USE TRUCKS ONLY LANE. Then we all get stuck behind whoever the slowest truck on the road that day is. This phenomenon already exists in some places, like US 70 going through, what is it, Shelby, NC? "TRUCKS MUST USE RIGHT LANE."

Quote: In observing many times small convoy's of trucks traveling in the center lanes of area highways... Are you sure that's a voluntary arrangement, or is it a bunch of people stuck behind a slow truck who insists on running in the only lane trucks can legally use to pass? Most of the time, it seems to be the latter in my case. I'm just hanging out until all the pokey people get done holding me up. Usually some guy running 54 mph and lecturing everyone on how it is his God-given right to go less than the speed limit in the left-most lane available to trucks.

It really depends on the circumstances. In general, I'd probably prefer to be behind cars instead of trucks. hard to see around trucks unless you maintain three times more following distance than anyone will ever let you keep. I don't really care who's behind me as long as they aren't riding 12" off my back bumper. I've had TRUCKS follow me so tight I could only tell they were there by their shadow, and that's sad.

That, or right before they get to their exit, they will cross over 4 lanes of traffic to get on the exit. :P

A truck only lane would make me mad out west while company trucks putt along in front of me.

Truck only lanes sound good but anymore truckers drive like four wheelers if you say it isnt so go the speed limit in a construction zone and then cover your ears for all the rude comments you will hear on the radio!

I might say Yes to this poll but what would be the use. The past 2 weeks when I was on the road there were places where there were designated truck lanes. That's all well and good but why bother when the 4 wheelers, Rvs and trailers use them as well as their own lanes.

There was talk of I-81 in VA being made into 8 lanes, 4 for cars and 4 for trucks. They would put the truck lanes in the middle of the current lanes. The idea has legs but the problem is, we would have to build all new entrance and exit ramps and you would still see some yahoos who cannot read signs drive their cars up into the truck lanes.

Bad idea; The granny lane wouldn't work, for obvious reasons.

Middle lanes?? Perhaps, but then cars would have to cross them to et into the hammer lane.

Hammer lane?? Nope!! For obvious reasons.

With designated truck lanes, there is also the issue of being reduced in speed to the slowest of the governed trucks. Had I wanted to drive a truck governed at 62mph, I would have called "SWIFT".
