| I work for a company that has four women that drive, very good drivers, only problem that they sometimes have is pulling there 5th wheel release, our company drops and hooks alot, but over all very good at what they do. :) |

| Depending on what type of hook it is I've seen both men and women have trouble. A Holland hitch is one of the easiest. Some have to be lifted up and over and secured first and they can be a real pain. |

Try to park as level as possible and utilize the air bag dump (if need be) to get it level. Also, a road/puller can make it easier if you find a way to use it to your advantage.

Also, sometimes you need to set your trailer brakes, then back up against them before setting your parking brake. This relieves the "bind" it is sometimes in. Other than that, I have never seen one that took much effort to pull, but there IS that tool that allows you to use the edge of the trailer as a fulcrum to increase pulling power.
Women should have no more problem at this than men. |

| I ordered my new Kenworth with a Holland automatic release fifth wheel, but is is a $2500 option. Not because I had any problems, just because I don't want to carry around a dirty, greasy pull bar in my truck |

I dont think the 5th-wheel release handle should be too much work. I think the most physical thing about trucking (other than securing cargo on flatbeds), is turning that damn handle, for raising the landing gear. To say the least, it gives you a run after it. I think driving schools should first ask you to open/close trailer doors, and have you lower and raise the landing gear. If you can do that, congratulations, you're a trucker!!

| well, landing gear has never been a problem unless the trailer is to high or low at wich time it can be a PITA, as far as the doors on a van, park on trucks, as level ground as posable so the doors are square with the truck and if handles won't close all the way a flatbed cheater bar will do the trick, same tool usualy works for those tandem pins that aren't quick release/spring loaded. if not there is a 3-5 lb maul hammer. with all these tools I don't see why guies have a hard time with ladies on trucks, not to mention, I've seen ladies do some amazing things I didn't think they were designed to do till they did it. |

  Yeah...but the "Dance Pole" is a stationary object!!!
Just kidding Ladies...just kidding!!!!
I have worked with more than a few women, who were all excellent drivers. At the same time I have worked with some men, whom were total idiots towards those women. A few of those guys, couldn't drive half as well as the ladies! Now..there was Tracey..who drove for Lee & Estes Tanklines in Seattle...Mmmmmmmmmmm....I loved to watch her check tank compartments for retain, and the dome lids to be sure they were locked down !! She made jeans look sooooo good!!! :P
NOT kidding either !!!! LOL...and I told her more than once how good she looked!!! |
