The FMCSA regulations are only the minimum laws that every state must adhere to. Any state can add laws and it's up to you to know them which sucks. There should be a section in the back that lists laws for each state that are not in the FMCSA regs.
Lots of truckers don't wear socks and wear slippers. Why....Because they can't reach there feet. |

I never drive with my boots on, I always take my boots off when I get in the truck and drive in my socks, just becaue I like to keep my truck spotless,
I just thought that I would add that there is nothing more unattractive than seeing a man wearing flip flops, I guess its ok if you are driving but don't go around in public like that, it looks ridiculous, I really don't like to see big ugly man feet |

I saw a lady driver get out of her truck and walk to the warehouse in about 8" stilletos. I thought they looked pretty good. But I don't think they were steel toed  :?
Me, I sometimes wear sandals, tennis shoes, all weather moc slip-ons, steel toed tennies...and sometimes even steel toed high rubber boots. I guess the occasion or ceremony determines the correct outfit and footwear... 8) |

YES there is!! Women wearing midrif tops that expose their "dunlop" disease!!
Or, for that matter, a man who can't keep his pants above his "equator."
I don't unload anything... so I never wear steel toes. I usually wear Reeboks, but occaissionaly my feet will swell a bit, so I change to rubber sole mocs while I'm in the truck. I switch back before fueling or meeting the public. |

I think I know who that driver was, Skywalker!!
Remember "Dizzy", the "fuel hauler" from the SF Bay area who had a whopping 6 weeks of driving experience??
The same "Dizzy" who got the job as a noobie because he "showed up for the interview in the right dress" (his/her/it's words) ??
The same "Dizzy" who lived in the "$740,000. house who, as a 6 week wonder, made more money than you or me??
The same "Dizzy" who couldn't answer some very basic questions that I asked him about the pruchase of his home, and couldn't answer your basic questions about the safe operation of a tanker??
THAT'S the guy we saw climbing out of the truck wearing his 8" Stilletos!! |

I would find a source other than Wikipedia.

Most, state laws simply prohibit driving barefoot. I seem to recall a few states prohibiting the wearing of flip flop type sandals (those without a heel strap) while driving. These laws are found under the general driving codes of individual states.
Personally I would never wear sandals while driving a truck. Too many chemicals laying around a truck stops and warehouses that could come in contact with your skin and potentially cause problems. I always wore leather tennis shoes or boots while driving.
Sorry Uturn it is a urban legend about "driving barefoot."
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barefoot and http://tafkac.org/legal/driving.barefoot/driving_barefoot.html Plus many more sites.
