|
|
Of all your road trips, what was the best meal you had at a road side restaurant?
When there used to be HOWARD JOHNSONS in my area, I used to stop in for a meal that is definitely not for those who are on a diet.
They had a dish called "Loaded Skins"... It was deep fried potato skins, loaded with scrambled eggs, diced ham, and topped with an incredibley delicious cheese sauce. MMMMMMMM.... GOOOOOD..... :D
I was so disappointed when HOWARD JOHNSONS closed their restaurants.
Another favorite road side restaurant I enjoy is the LOBSTER POOL. A road side restaurant that offers no frills seafood. Fresh live lobster, with steamers, corn on the cob, cole slaw, and fries. Yummy... :D Oh, don't forget lots of melted butter....mmmmmm.... good!....
It is a great little place to sit outdoors (if you choose), at picnic tables, along the oceans edge, and eat your meal, while watching the sun set...
There is one more I can think of, a place with a uniquely designed building. A place called the CLAM BOX. They serve mile high plates of deep fried clams, and other fried seafood. One of the best fried seafood places I know... The building is constructed in the shape of a Clam Box. So, you can't miss the place should you drive by it.... |

Yep! Just did the Wendover thing a few weeks ago. Nice showers at the Trucker's Lounge. Got a nice meal at Rainbow, then went over to the Red Garter to try my luck on winning the Peterbilt.
Took my roll of nickels and ran the one arm bandit till they were gone. Took awhile..I kept winning too many nickels back. |

HEY!... Your supposed to give the name of the restaurant you went too, and describe the type of meal you enjoyed.
I do like seafood, but, I've also gone to Chinese, and Italian restaurants trying to find the one restaurant of each catagory that can make my favorite dish the best...
Of Chinese food, my favorite dish is Cashew Chicken. Of Italian food, my favorite dish is Fettuccine Alfredo, with any variation. Either plain, or with chicken added, or seafood (lobster/shrimp combo), Mmmmm. :)
There was a nice little place that used to make the best Seafood Fettuccine Alfredo, but, the building owner sold the building, and the restaurant owner simply closed up his restaurant without even leaving a forwarding.
I like a lot of different foods. It's always nice to try something new at least once, and twice if you like it... |

| One time in Clinton, Iowa, I walked down to a TGI fridays and had a cold one and the Appetizer Sample Platter. It was pretty good. |

| One that stands out in my mind is one I had at a little steak and seafood place next to the Gadsden, AL Petro off I-59, exit 181. I pulled in there thinking, "Petro=Iron Skillet" but they didn't have one, so I walked across the street from the truck lot to try the other place. I had the grilled pork tenderloin (a piece of meat as big as my hand and about an inch thick, char-broiled and drizzled with a tangy bbq sauce) fried okra, field peas and a bottomless glass of iced tea for under $10. That's one meal I'll definitely return for. |

| My best meal - was a quick stop at a grocery store and a nice bbq steak and fresh salad in an out o the way littlestop along the road with nothing around but miles and miles of trees followed by a nice little dip in an icy creek on a hot day - sheer heaven. |

| Yeah...I think the chicken on the appetizer menu section was courtesy of me. Couldn't tell exactly with all those feathers flying in the side-view mirror.   |

| Whenever I'm parked for more than the 10 hour break, I look up various points of interest on my GPS and anything within two miles or so is fair game. Today I walked over the the Claim Jumper. A friend of mine introduced me to it several years back. We don't have any in Texas. They are know for their generous portions. I had the steak and lobster combo. It was delicious. A little pricey, though. But, hey, lobster in the middle of the desert should be pricey. |
