Here we go again.
There is nothing about guns in the FMCSA regs.
However:
Most companies ban having firearms on the truck.
There are hundreds of gun laws in the USA. The only way you would be legal in all of them is to have the gun broken down, in a case, and stowed in an area of the truck not readily accessible by the driver or any passenger. |

| In GA. there was a bill ( and it was slated to pass ) that an employer could NOT ban an employee from bringing a gun on company porperty ( I think it said you had to keep it in the car??). ( Right to self protection ). The bill was to be voted on a day or two after the VA. Tech. shooting so they tabled it til later. |

Years ago I was going through a Main Battle Tank Transition Course in Boise, ID. My Battalion was changing from the M60 MBT to the M60A3. Not as good as the M1 Abrams, but not bad. Anyway, we we training out in the High Desert. We carried and used live rounds for the .30, .50 and Main Gun. We were told that if we came across some of the White Supremacist in the area we were to leave them strictly alone....they were better armed than we were! |

When an employer or property owner bans the possession of a "dangerous weapon", what they are saying is that they especially do not want responsible, law abiding people to possess a gun there.
That is because thay already know a criminal isn't going to pay attention to their ban anyway.
So what that ban is meant to achieve is to prevent a law abiding person from being able to defend himself against a criminal attack. Now that is obsession with controlling people. |

Personal opinion is that if you have a gun in the vehicle you are apt to use it in circumstances that will you killed. NOTHING we haul is worth your life and pulling a firearm is tantamount to saying, go ahead, shoot me. Another negative is that your truck will become a target for a thief if they find out you have a firearm in there. 2 reasons, 1) if you "need" a gun, you probably have something valuable, 2) The thief wants the gun.
In this age with Road Rage at an all time high, carrying a gun is, in my opinion, a poor choice compared to using a little self control. All you have to do is pull the thing out and your driving career is over with jail time imminent. Just takes one citizen that sees it and you are the one in trouble.
Keep your doors locked, watch your surroundings, I you see something you don't like, don't get out and confront it, drive off. Much safer than a firearm! |

I liked the suggestion someone had about carrying wasp spray, that way, you can defend yourself if necessary, but you wont be tempted to use it when grandpa cuts you off in traffic. |

yea, but wasp spray shoots for about 50 feet, you can get them without exerting yourself. |
