I personally know absolutely NOTHING, nada, zip about them. I have been reading all the threads on here and other forums in an attempt to educate myself.

I have learned that there are some radios that are "10 meter" and are illegal to use unless you have a FCC license.

I found this "combo setup" but have no clue as to if it is decent or worth the price they are asking. So I though I would post it here so all you experts could give me your feed back.

They are asking $214.95 for the package and if you want it tuned and peaked it cost an additional $44.95.

This is a complete CB System for Truck Drivers using conventional mirror arms (eg Freightliner™ FL, 120, Classic; Peterbuilt™ 379, 378, 377; and any other trucks that accept mirror mounts). Quality, performance, and value. The Uniden PC78LTW offers illuminated faceplate, access to NOAA weather broadcasts, SWR Meter, Mic Gain, RF Gain, Automatic Noise Limited, Noise Blanker, and the Uniden exclusive Dynamic Squelch System. Not stopping there, the high performance 4 foot FS series from Firestik is included with this bundle as well as 18 feet of RG58 coax cable, Stainless Steel Bracket & Spring and aluminum Stud. To top everything off we’ve included the crystal clear noise canceling Astatic 636L microphone, this is not a tin can system. This is a complete solution!

radio and mic are good, if the radio is peeked and tweeked, spend another $65 abd put in connex board, i have heard the shorter the coax the better, so depends how far you are going with it. buy a steel whip antenna, i think they work better...wilson 1000, browning, monkey made(my personal prefferance). but i have been wrong before

makes you louder, echo, and talkback usually involved. CB shops put them in, deprnds on the shop and type of board, mine ran about 65 installed

Ditto on that. Why not ask them to make custom length cables for the price, if not see what it would cost. But push for the freebie :lol: . I run the firestyk antennas, Have no real issues with them. Haven't used steel whips yet.

As for the connex board, Before you get it done, listen to the radio while driving and listen for the guy's with way to much re-verb, echo, and the such. If all of the setting are used right, it don't sound bad. If you don't get the settings right, you better get used to a lot of people asking you to turn down the echo and such so they can understand you.

Not a bad price for the package at least, as long as it's installed.

Either way... looks like your getting a fair price. No huge savings, but doesn't appear like they are over charging you from what I've seen online. Don't be afraid to ask for the freebies, like installations, or custom CO-AX, or see if they do something for you if you get it peaked and tweaked.

Well, to me, $215 seems a little high. That Bearcat goes for $100 online. The antenna, $20. The other stuff, well, he probably isnt charching you too much for that. I would guess, he is charging you $175 for the $100 radio, and then the rest is for that Hotrod, and other stuff. Ya might think twice before you dive in. Then again, if you went, and bought everything on your own, it might come out about the same. Just need to look over everything.

Questions like this are similar to "WHAT IS THE BEST TRUCK" :D It really depends on what your looking for in a radio. Want the bells and whistles, get a radio that has the ability to be heavily modified. Or just get a galaxy/connex. Just want a radio that allows you to talk to other people on the same stretch of highway, something like what your looking at should be fine, maybe a step down. You looking for bells and whistles, or a decent radio that allows some control of mike gain and and RF gain?

Just want something that is of good quality, reliable, LEGAL, easy to use, and won't cost a fortune.
