| Well, I guess, I have not been keeping up lately, but what happened to the Winston? I saw online that it said something about the NEXTEL cup. Now, has that been around for some time, or did it just switch? |

I knew someone would come back with something. :P
Well, I did some searching, and apparently, it has been the NEXTEL cup for a couple of years. Never had a clue. I havent kept up with NASCAR in the last few years. |

Jack, been Nextel for 3 years, this will be the 4th. I really wish Winston was still in it but the govt. ran them out in a way. Wouldn't have the current problem with RCR and Jeff Burton trying to get their sponsorship straightened out with only 3 days left before the Bud Shootout which he is in this Saturday night. When Nextel came in, them and NASCAR signed a deal that no other telecommunications could come into their Series as long as their Title Sponsor reign. All those already in the Series were allowed to stay but if they left, they would not be allowed back in. Cingular is the sponsor in question who was just bought out by AT&T and Nextel is saying, "No way Jose." What burns me is the fact that Nextel was bought out by Sprint, so in my mind, the deal with NASCAR should be null and void. They didn't sign a deal with Sprint, only Nextel.
What will prolly happen is the Cingular logo will stay on the car all year as will the Cingular name, but in small letters that cannot be seen or read from the stands, it will say AT&T. That will give RCR a full year to find a replacement sponsor for the future. NASCAR really doesn't want to piss Richard off because he WILL take his ball and go home so to speak and legions of fans will follow. |

| Man, quite interesting, Mr Ford. Thank ya. I didnt even think about Sprint buying out NEXTEL. I guess, NASCAR, is still paying an empty account :P |

What I meant by Winston still being around, they didn't do what Nextel is doing with competitors. If a driver showed up with Billy Bob's Smokes on the car, Winston/RJ Reynolds had no problem with it.
Nascar isn't paying, Sprint is paying Nascar. The title name is due to change from the current, Nextel Cup but Sprint has not come up with a decent replacement name for the Cup. I am very surprised they haven't come up with a slogan for the final 10 races instead of the "Chase for the Cup." They have an easy one sitting right in front of them, "Sprint for the Nextel Cup." |

Ha, I got to call the speedway between the 21st and 27th of this month to upgrade my number of seats. Just sent back my renewal form to keep my name in the pot so now I'm just waiting for the phone lines to open up so I can add seats.
How about Junior's bombshell yesterday?? He wants to be majority owner of DEI which means he would be calling all the shots. That may have sealed his fate, I do not see Teresa giving up majority unless all the kids join together. Dale started DEI for the kids anyway, he wanted them to eventually take it over and run it, Junior, Kerry, Kelly and Taylor. Junior wasn't happy during last night's Bud Shootout Selection Show. His first words were, "I really don't want to be here doing this right now" with a facial expression that showed an "I don't care about anything right now." The kids and most of the employees of DEI may have to simply buy her out to get her out of there. DEI will be down the tubes without Junior. |

Might be..
Do they still run the John Deere car. Man, I was so excited when Deere had a race car. I think the driver was, Chad Little? Does he still race? I know, it has been a while, since I have watched a full season of NASCAR. :P |

Chad is no longer racing, he was doing TV with SpeedTV as part of their pre-race Race Day show but that was several years ago. From Wikipedia: Little now has a part-time studio analyst job for Speed Channel. He is also the President for the Mexican NASCAR series. In July of 2006 Little attempted something of a comeback, competing with a group of lawyers in a go-kart competition. While it took him some time to adjust to the considerably smaller automobile, he made it to the final race and finished 5th. He got his butt kicked by a group of lawyers. :D His best race was the inaugural Texas race where he finished 2nd that day to a Roush teammate, Jeff Burton. John Deere is no longer doing Nascar, prolly because Chad rarely had the car up front to where the TV guys could say, "And nothing runs like a Deere today."
While the color green is considered unlucky in Nascar, Harry Gant did very well in a green and white Skoal Bandit car. Casey Mears best races in his former Ganassi car came when he was driving a green colored car. Even Jeff Gordon has gotten in on it and has had good top 10 runs with a green car. Brian Vickers ran a green colored car a number of times with Hendrick and did ok. The color has started to no longer be considered unlucky these days but the old timers like Jarrett, Rudd and Scharder will not run it. |
