| It isn't just for those who violate the hos rules. The goal is to mandate it for all class 8 trucks. It is the larger carriers such as US Xpress, Covenant, Dart, etc., and the ATA who have proposed it and are pushing for it to be put in all trucks. They want it to be a criminal offense for anyone to tamper with them once they are on the truck. Regardless of what they say now, the original proposal was drafted by about half a dozen carriers and endorsed by the American Trucking Association. If it passes, it will create another rule which does nothing but cost everyone who owns a truck money. Anyone who wishes to have their voices heard should write and express their concerns before this becomes law. They want all new trucks to come with tamper proof EOBR's and those who have a 1990 or newer truck to have to put them on their truck. It is just another mindless expense. All newer trucks have computers which can be set to any speed the owner wants. There is not reason to have something else put on a truck which does the same thing. If you own a truck or drive you need to start writing letters to let them know how you feel before this can become law. |
