Especially when we heard him say in October, "I'm cancer free now." One lung just wasn't enough for him. Looks like he was put into an induced coma and he slipped away while in it. 2 Champs lost just like that in a little over a week of one another due to cancer.

He had a blood clot in his one good lung and that is what killed him. The one thing I hate about cancer is the way it kills suddenly I have lost all of my grand parents to that killer and yet they still have not found a cure yet,

I for one will miss his voice on NBC's telecasts. To me, he was THE voice of NASCAR. A lot of these other telecasters for NASCAR could do themselves a favor by listening to how Benny did a race...

The only drawback to Benny lately on TV was how he was a Junior fan. DW is much the same for FOX, they both just gush when he does something good. Annoyed a lot of people, but he was a smart man on TV. He didn't have some cliche or anything, just told us what we needed to know that was technical and moved out of the way. He let the racing do the talking unlike 2 of his counterparts in the booth. Benny and Alan Bestwick were the 2 best TV guys NBC had in the booth on race day.
