Anyone else a fan of this type of racing??

For those unfamiliar, each car is started on each stage at one-minute intervals. A whole rally race usually consists of 16 separate stages (each stage roughly 10-20 miles in length). The crew (driver & co-driver) have "notes" describing the road in some detail.

The team with the lowest cumulative time for the entire event is the winner.

Lots of video clips on www.youtube.com (search term "WRC" shows many World Rally Championship clips from races all over the globe.

I'd love to drive in one.

Only thing I'm running now is my snowmobile :P

I love WRC! I was really upset when Speed ditched coverage. I've managed to download the first half of the season and will get the last half before I go on the road. I'm going to burn it all to DVD and will hopefully be able to watch on my down time.

As a side note, I own a Subaru Impreza WRX and, with enough income, hope to buy an STi next year. I'll probably let my daughter drive the WRX if I get the STi.

:P

Aha!

That'd be the epic "Press On Regardless" rally (now known as Lake Superior Rally).

Here's a 10 second clip of one of our NW local teams who got a wee bit airborne  cresting a hill on one of your back roads in the U.P. during the race :P

That driver started his rally career on the same events a buddy & me did in 1999. I was a co-driver in a few different cars locally until my wife objected ( reckoning that the risk of paralysis (or death) is pretty high if you crash into a fir tree at 110 mph! )

Yeah it is the Press on Regardless-Good job. I forgot the name of it.
I've got dial-up so I'm not sure if I can see it but I'll try.

Those fans are insane standing so close to the track.
At the end of that clip after the jump it looks like he's going into the Weeds. Did he wipe out? :P

Believe it or not yoopr, he kept it on the road.

BTW - That "track" is actually a public road :P , Brockway Mountain (closed off to other traffic for the day).

I know the U.P is a large area, but have you been on that road?

They get more snow up there(About 140 miles north of me) than anyplace in the U.S outside the Rockies.

With that film clip during his last jump you can hear his engine whine like he lost it and the crowd sure sounded like he wiped out.
I'll be damned if I ran 100mph on that road :P
