I run to canada a lot and I'm not sure I'm real clear on everything up there. Never realized that I could drive 13 hours there instead of 11 until a safety meeting we had that it came up the other day. No one had ever told me this, I always shut down at 11 thinking I had to. (well I logged 11 maybe drove longer, but could have logged more miles if I knew I had 13 to work with).
anyway, I did a search and didn't come up with much.
can I drive 13 hrs even being a US driver up there?
do they have the same 14 hour clock or just 14 hours on duty. meaning once I come on duty do I only have 14 hrs, no matter how long I stop?
also how long are you required to sit up there? is it 10 hrs consecutive or can you split it like you used to here like drive 5 sleep 5 drive 5 sleep 5? |

If your company allows you to switch from USA to Canadian and vise versa, then you are allowed to. You must make sure you are in compliance before you cross the border though! The Canadian regulations are changing on 1-1-07 so all USA drivers that go into Canada will need to know the new one's as their rule changing has affected the USA drivers going into Canada.
Here is a couple links going over the new and some of the old. If I was you I would concentrate on learning the new and stay under USA regs UNTIL THE NEW YEAR and you will be fine.
They are much nicer in Canada, I wish USA would go to these regulations!

| When I used to run up to the NWT I stayed with US HOS and didn't switch back and forth. |

| thanks guys..........been very helpful. Now I can be sure I understand the regs up there. I've printed a couple of these up and I'm going to hang them up in the driver's room if the boss man approves. I'm sure there are others like me who aren't real certain |

Stranger: I might be able to post more stuff as I am going to a seminar in Canada this week, brrrrr it's cold there.
I am going to ask the questions what must the US drivers have on their logs and what HOS will affect the US drivers while going into Canada.
I am not excited to hear the answers: I think I will just move to Canada, the rules are much nicer :D
I believe I have a link to a PowerPoint to, if that would be helpful to anyone? |
