| I've heard that a 10'-1" spread is not allowed "out west". Can anybody shed some light on this for me? |

| You can have a 10 foot spread but,you are only allowed 10,000 lbs on each axle and, you are a marked man at every scale for the inspection of your life.If you venture West a 6ft spread or a closed tandem is the way to go.Keep in mind also the max. tractor wheel base is 244 inches out there.As messed up as our laws are down here they worse over the border. |

| Ontario guy here. No border crossing involved. :wink: Spec'ing a new trailer (Wilson CFD900 step combo with 36" deck height) and would like it to be legal everywhere that's all. |

| Go with a tridem setup legal for everywhere in Canada and won't saddle you with too much weight if you have to go into the states. |

Good info thanks. 10,000 lbs per axle? Sheesh.
Thought about the tridem but 80,000lbs is still the US limit even with a tridem correct? Meaning the extra weight of the additional axle is robbing me of payload?
We get paid by the ton therefore we try to get 80,000lb if we can. That often puts us over on the rear axles. With the 72" spread we're allowed 42,000 in Ontario but only 34,000 in the per the Bridge Formula. 10-1 spread allows us 40,000 on the rears.
We scaled almost the perfect load the other day:79,780 gross|11,980 steers|33,160 drives|34,640 rears. Sure would be nice to have 40,000 available back there so we wouldn't have to cut it so close.

| Rank, if you like a spread axle but want to be legal in Canada, you may want to consider buying a spread with a sliding rear axle. That way you can close it when you are in Canada or California and open it when you need it. I have a 53' step deck that I bought with the rear slider because I was traveling California at the time. It can sure save the tires if you don't need the spread open. |
