My wife and i are in our mid forties and have two kids in college. Since the kids now live away on campus we are looking to sale our house and become a trucker team. I have been looking at different ways to do this.
We have looked at expedite solutions. http://www.expeditesolutions.com/faqs.html
The pro and cons of Expedite.
Pros
They are 70 miles from where i live.
We can become a team immediately.
Cons
The trucks are Class b therefor training is class B . This appears to limit opportunities greatly for any future changes. A class b license is worthless.
Their runs are only in the Midwest. My wife and i have had the same jobs and living in the same house for 17 years. We had discussed becoming truckers after our last child graduated high school to see the country. We have two kids in college so we still need money.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how me and my wife can stay together and become a team. We understand that for training we may need to separate and team with a trainer. What we don't want to do is separate for a long period of time. I am a weightlifter married to a women who is not very strong. She can drive but would struggle to load a truck. Would that stop her from being able to go through a school. As a team i would do all heavy lifting.
My wife and i have spotless driving records and a good long work history.
I know we would be a good hire. Anybody have a suggestion how to match a company and training with us. I live in Indiana

My wife and I are going to do the same thing. I am going to school first (with Swift Transportation) I'll be in Memphis for three weeks for course training and then six weeks on the road with a trainer. After that i'll be assigned a truck and my wife will then go to school and I will be her trainer. That way she won't have to go out for six weeks with a stranger and the course for her will be free. It's a pretty good deal if you're looking to get out for a while and Swift was highly recommended to me.

Good luck.

If i remember correctly, there are companies that one of you could get hired onto, get a minimal amount of experience and then train your spouse. BOL

I figure that if you live in a log cabin in the woods, approx. 50 miles from nowhere with your wife, driving with her and training her will NOT be a problem.
I realize that this does not apply to everyone, but, if you have problems with taking direction from your husband or wife, you are not really as compatible as one would have assumed at the time of your wedding...
Really though, the good thing is that if one or the other of us decides that we don't want to do it, we have other careers that we can fall back on.
