Since your talking about Volvo Trucks here, I thought I would ask for opinions on my 1996 Volvo W1A model tractor. This tractor has a CAT C-12 motor, I bought it at a reasonable price...IMHO. The tractor does have a lot of miles on it... 1.2k and had top end work at about 800k. Tractor runs great with only minor fix-it problems. I used one gal. of oil in 8k miles and I think some leaked out. Oil pressure is reading around 50-55 psi.
What are the good and the bad with this truck being a 1996 year truck?
I will be paid for in six months, and my payments are very low... only $800 per month. The exterior of the truck is not too bad, needs minor replacement stuff like new headlight complete as it's all cloudy, cost is around $300, needs new passanger fender, as hood is three parts, paint job not bad for the year of the truck.
Would it be worth keeping it and putting money in it, or pay it off and trade it in for a Internation 9900ix, or maybe a Freightliner xl, or a Peterbuilt.
Thanks |

Hold on to it for as long as you can, when it is paid off you can pocket alot of money, minus road expense of course.
My uncle who is an o/o does this. He buys an old truck that has been taken care for dirt cheap. He currently has an 96 fld he got for 9 grand. Over a million miles and very few minor problems. When this truck starts to give him alot of problems he will get anther one. By doing this he says in a year or so he can buy a brand new truck and owe nothing on it. |
