I'm the new owner of a 2001 Volvo 770 with 1 million miles.
I ended up paying 24k . I had found some cheaper smaller sleepers for lower $ but very few 770s and none that had a trackable history. I bought this from the original purchaser and have all of the repair history with documentation and it was on a dispatch the night before I took ownership.
It ran really nice from TN to WI.
Does anyone have a good source for Volvo parts. I need headlight capsules, possibly a wiper motor or linkage and some other Volvo specific pieces.

What engine does it have? Have you scaled it?

Volvo specific parts can be pricey. "headlight capsule" you mean the headlight housing? Look in junkyards.

Good luck with your new ride. I recently bought a 2001 Western Star and went crazy fixing all the little things that don't matter much to the operation of the truck but it was fun!!! I drove the dealer crazy having to order stuff that nobody orders and took him hours to look up part numbers.

i use to own a volvo 770, went crazy trying to find parts, and they are expensive when u do get them, remember i was broke down in riverside, CA for 9 days, dont remember exactly what its called but it wouldnt go into high gear, took to dealer and they said it would be at least a week, ended up 9 days. 770's are heavy also, there are all types of lawsuits out for that.

I'll try to cover your responses/ questions.

It has a Cummins N14 with a in frame done about 1 yr ago

I'm going to replace both headlight ass. with new...crazing of plastic and silvering is un-silvery (new word?)

Normally a salvage yd keeps their headlight ass. to sell with their hoods.

The truck weighed in at 19700 with 250gal fuel and all of the previous owners stuff. I'll be installing headache rack and alum. side boxes
to hold my flatbed stuff. (probably adding about 1000#) My company wants us at about 21700 fully equipt. I can also lighten up the interior if I need too.

Tell me more about weight related lawsuits???

Quote: Yes, you can the passenger seat probably weighs 50 pounds. You can save a hundred if you take out both seats and sit on a five gallon bucket and a boat cushion.

Volvo's are heavy....Volvo uses a steel cab structure instead of aluminum
to meet the european safety standards .

The five gallon bucket and boat cushion appears at first to be a good idea...but the cushion keeps falling inside
....maybe if I turn the bucket over

and his is the later year 770's, they're light!

Mine is probably going to weigh 21,000 when I get the deer bumper on. That will be with 240 gallons, and passenger.

Shoot Rev, my girl weighed in at just shy of 21k lbs when I first got her scaled with 240 gals in. Actual weight was 20,960lbs. This was without my clothes, tv, food in the fridge etc. so I'm sure in "trip form" it's probably closer to 21,500 with my 250lb. butt.

Awesome truck, on the porky end of the scale but that will be the last of your concerns when you wash your hands in your own sink and have a meal at the kitchen table and then head to the upper bunk, nice!

When its time to buy a truck and put some drivers behind the wheel big Volvos are where I will start to shop, good luck.

Although liking those T2000s as well, hmmmmmmm.

I saw the truck I want last week.

When Celadon bought out Digby, they ended up with a 2006 Volvo 880, that was fully decked out. It doesn't have the big Volvo engine, but it does have an 18spd automatic.

I guess the truck was fully spec'd out when Digby ordered it for the husband/wife team that was running it.

I was checking into Celadon's lease/purchase program and mentioned that truck in a joking manner. I guess they're selling it in the neighborhood of $100k.

I was at our Marshfield yd yesterday having it inspected/ decals installed etc.
It was parked next to a new Freightliner condo. The Volvo weighs more because you get more.
I've Bobtailed about 1k miles so far . The feel is soooo... different. It would be very hard to get into a different trk. My last tractor was a International (poor headlights, window washers that cleaned the bottom of the windshield, terrible ride)
Now I start the reconditioning part....
