|

The ATA! I can't believe this- they sent a petition to the DOT asking them to make it a law that all trucks coming off the line be limited at 68 mph. And even an o/o who tampers with it would be breaking the law.
Trucking Speed Limiter Article
The link has a link to the ATA website with the press release about it and the petition itself.
Have they even HEARD of Arizona? |

| It's been on the drawing board for a long time and if enacted, will require a governor set at 68 on ALL new trucks. Don't know if they'll ever get it through, though. It's a head-scratcher. :? |

At least they tried to throw some humor in....
Section IV. Costs and Benefits
...
.Cost to Truck Drivers Due to Loss of Income.
...."ATA believes that due to a current and projected long-term shortage of qualified
drivers in the sector most likely to be impacted by the proposed regulation
(i.e.the long-haul truckload sector), employers will likely compensate
drivers for some small loss of income."
...
BS...The company loses money due to increased government regs and they believe they'll intentionally cost themselves more by giving more to drivers???
Can you say cheaper drivers?
Wonder where they'll come from? |

Suddenly this is being considered "news" again, because before it was the carriers who were being highlighted, now it is the ATA.

| Well you certainly couldn't govern 'em at 69. Then everybody would be blowing rods. :P |

...now that is hilarious!...
...the interstates here are 65mph speed limit..
...I drive 5 mph over the speed limit sometimes 7 over (on the interstate, weather and traffic permitting of course)...so I don't want to be governed at 68 on a 65 mph road...but I will say that however fast the big truck is going, four wheelers will go just a bit faster, so governing the big trucks might have an affect on overall traffic speed...it seems to me the fourwheelers see the big truck as their next challenge, to get by them, then go on to the next one...even if the big truck is going 80 mph or more, it will be passed, so in that respect, it might be helpful if the truck is governed...if the big truck is held to 68, alot (not all) the 4 wheelers would only have to go 70-72 mph to conquer their next challenge...and that would make it safer maybe... |

Does anybody READ the Rules and Regs section? Every time I stop in there there's nothing new. |

| ....but I think the real push to govern the trucks is coming from a handful of the big carriers... |

| Just be glad you're not in Europe. Most European trucks are governed at 85 km/h (53 mph), though I think in the UK they're allowed to go 90 km/h (56 mph). |

Aint that special!
If they set all the trucks to run at 68mph, can you imagine all the States that would loose revenue from not writing all those tickets. |
