| Do you guys know anything about this place. I'm interested in their flatbed/specialized Mid east regional division. I'm going to call them Monday, any info would be appreciated. I want to be home weekends for starters. Live near Ohio Turnpike so that shouldn't be too difficult. www.atsinc.com/index.jsp |

Yup, I drove for them for a few years. Keep in mind this was 10 years ago.
Now, I drove teams with my now ex, so we stayed out for 6 weeks at a time, our choice. We also did vans, not flats. I also was leased on with them through a small fleet owner, so I was not a company driver.
Would I go back? Yep, if I lived in the midwest/towards the east and south, what was where all the freight was back then. With what I recall of their freight lanes, I don't see why you couldn't get home weekly. But again my experience is not recent.
Now with flats, you get paid pretty darn well. I know the guys that drove for my fleet owner made much better money than the van haulers. Flats is good. ATS preferred their flatbed drivers. They had good loads that paid well. Also, the flatbed drivers get to pick loads. They will send you 3-4 loads on the qualcomm, and you pick the one you want. At least is ws this way for o/o's. Vans were forced dispatch.
My dispatcher was great, got us home when we wanted for whatever reason, or even if we wanted to go to a particular part of the country, they did it if possible.
Overall I liked them. Granted I don't have issues like a lot of drivers seem to. I had times where I would sit for a day, exp on a sat evening unload, and sit on a Sunday. However, it was rare. Sometimes I would haul crappy loads, they did a lot of paper mills with the vans, those places suck. But they are 100% better than a grocery warehouse, and we did none of those.
If you're a complainer, you ain't going to be happy anywhere. But if you understand trucking's good and bad sides, I think you'd do fine at ATS.
They're as good as any, at least back then. I'd talk to a current driver if you can. |
