How many of you guys will give a wave to another driver passing by you on a 2 way street or highway. I've noticed that most drivers still do wave to the other truckers on the road(both in the US and in Canada). Wondering how courteous the drivers are here.
In addition, how many of you guys & gals will let a driver know over the CB or with a flash of the lights that they are clear of your truck and able to complete a pass, and if your the one thats passing and another driver flashes his lights, will you give him a "thanks" by hitting your 4-ways for a couple of blinks? |

| When I used to go on truck trips with my dad as a kid, I remember him waving at every truck that passed by and that he'd flash his lights for a passing truck or give his 4-ways a flash to say thank you and It's stuck with me into my driving career. I wave at every driver and will let them know when they are clear of my truck in a passing situation. |

| I don't generally look over at the passing/passed driver to wave, but I typically utilize the light protocol for a fellow driver at night or if the airwaves are clear tell them over the radio. |

I think the way I worded the question is a little confusing. It was to me after I re-read it. I meant an on coming truck on an undivided road. I won't look over at another driver either if I'm being passed or passing. |

| No your post was fine. I put my answer in up in the poll, that unless the other person waves, I generally don't wave. I was including addendum related to the topic in my responce. However, I'll clarify that generally the direction the sun is beaming from, it's very difficult to see the other person waving, and if he/she does, one may have at the very most a fraction of a second to return the wave in time for the driver to see it. It's hard enough seeing drivers from the same company wave from the other side of the median on a 4-lane highway. Most of the time in a 2-lane highway, I'm more concerned about being centered in the lane and making sure the other truck is doing the same than peering through the windshield to see a raised hand. |

Well,Im from Texas,therefore,I wave at everyone. :P Most of the guys I see when I puttling along heading out to Lubbock,wave.
When I am heading back from Lubbock,tearing up the asphalt at 68 mph,those cow haulers come around me like Im sitting still. They blow past me so fast,that by the time I start to reach for the headlight marker switch,they are already a quarter mile ahead of me. Im like,well,uh good buddy,you got it,bring er over. :shock: :P |

| I would wave but living right at the fringes of the Northeast, one really doesn't chance taking their hands off the wheel with the idiot 4 wheelers slicing and dicing. I will flash my lights but usually it does no good, they are already coming on over or they stay put, hung out in the center lane. I do wave if I go to merge onto the Big Road and another driver slides over to give me some room, I give a quick wave as they go roaring by or hop on the CB to thank them. |

| I see it as a courtesy. No, most of the time, I don't know him/her, but they are doing the same job I am, and facing and overcoming the same challanges. To me, it's also a signal of respect. I can't say that I do so "EVERYTIME", but by far, most times. If my hands are busy, it can be a bit difficult at times. |

| I've been trying to wave as I'm passed or passing and also use my flashers as a "thank you" whenever possible. Seems like a good form of communication between fellow truckers. I've also noticed that many truckers will wave as they approach on two lane highways - surprises me, but I try to wave back. |

When I drove across South Dakota from the Black Hills to Aberdeen on the two laners, I got waved at by all drivers heading in the opposite direction.
Same thing in my car when I drove US160 between Trinidad, CO and my great aunts home in Walsh. There's so little traffic on that road that all the drivers wave at each other as they approach. There is still some decency out there. |

I almost always always wave or at least give them a nod of the head. I'm a country bumpkin and we wave at everyone anyway, whether you're in a bigtruck or not. The same goes for flashing the lights, I've always done this for bigtrucks even before I drove one. Of course, I'll use the CB instead if it's really heavy traffic and I'm in the middle lane or something. Don't want the wrong person to inadvertantly receive the signal.
I will say that this is a courtesy that is not extended nearly as often as it should be. |

| I always give a flash to thank drivers when I pass them. I use to wave while in Canada. I find they are much more friendly than in the U.S. I'd wave if someone waves to me but got sick of waving and no one waved back. |
