I just bought a new hopper grain trailer and when I got home I noticed on the rear axle of the trailer that the brakes are way out of adjustment. The bottom set of pads was slightly riding on the way home, and the top set of pads isn't even touching, Doesn't even touch when you apply the brakes. I'm not real up on air brakes so bear with my ignorance. What would be the first thing to look at on how to fix it.

| If you don't know about air brakes, do you think it's a good idea to drive it? Where did you get your license? A Cracker Jack box? Search this forum, there are many references to air brakes. Take a course on air brakes, it could save somones life! Maybe yours. |

Well that would fail a DOT inspection so it needs to be fixed.
If that is a new trailer from a dealers lot then you should take it back to them to fix, since it should be inspectable when sold.
If it was a private sale, or the dealer is far away, then take it to your nearest truck garage and pay them to fix it AND teach you about air brakes in the process. |

| If you own your own equipment, you would be very wise to know about things like that. Also, the limits that are acceptable. I've seen guys having their brakes replaced, shoes and drums, and when I looked at them, they were not worn down very far yet. Not knowing can open you up to paying for repairs that are not needed. |

| If one pad is grabbing and the other isn't, its a possibility that one of the rollers fell out. I've seen this many times. |
