|
|
I am looking to go to work for TMC. I have spoken with Jason and I have a couple of questions regarding my military service (Jason is looking for an answer too but I really want to know ASAP). First- Does the type of discharge matter? As in, does it have to be an honorable or will anything except a dishonorable work? Maverick turned me down because it must be an honorable and mine is a "bad conduct discharge" , not a dishonorable but also no honorable. Second- Do I have to provide a copy of my DD-214 (discharge papers) to be employed? I had my DD-214 but 3 years ago my home burned to the ground and the paperwork was in my house at the time so it is gone now.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Doug |

You can get a copy of your DD-214 free by completing a SF-180.. here is a link to download.

It's my understanding that a DD-214( ) can now be gotten directly from the National Records Center in St. Louis over the internet. Contact a VSO (veterans service officer) at your county veterans service office, or any VFW, American Legion or DAV VSO.
I read about it in either my VFW or American Legion magazine. BOL |

You could probably petition to have your discharge upgraded to general.
I can't guarentee it but it don't hurt to try. |

First thing would be to get your DD214 because you will need it for sure before Jason would be able to get it approved. You would need to tell Jason what the details were behind the discharge and then he can ask the hiring committee to see what they say. He wouldn't be able to bring you in until you have the dd214 though. Hope that helps.

Thanks Matt. I was hoping that I could start working for TMC without the DD214 since I am ready to go to oreintation on Monday and it can take some time to get the gov't to send out copies of paperwork. I already explained the discharge to Jason, just hoping that since an explaination was requested that I will still be considered and not turned away for a 1 time incident 9 years ago (that I definitely learned a lesson from).

Well, it appears that the hiring committee has spoken. Jason told me this afternoon that I was turned down. Any one up to finding out why or if there is anything that can be done to change this??
