| The hours of service suck! Since they took away our ability to split log it is almost impossible to run 5 loads a week legally. I think that the purpose behind it was to force companies to run teams in thier trucks. |

It is odd that TMC charges for Prepass. This service keeps the truck rolling with more profit to the company. And it is another way to pinpoint your time and location for the HOS reviews done by TMC and by DOT.
A couple TMC drivers said they don't have it because it will interfere with their regular "fudging" of the daily logs.
TMC is constantly stressing the importance of running legal, but most of the TMC drivers I've met have a system to work around the logs. The same thing probably happens with other truck companies. |

Yes, it's a $500 deductible, but you don't mention, that it's only on the first ocasion, and it's up to $500/Year. so say 32 months down the road you need to go in to the hospital, you'd only pay the 20%. seems steep? Get suplemental insurance. They'll pay for wvwrything anyways. It's not that expensive if you think in the long run...
I signed up for everything. Imagine yourself slip, fall, break something, and the paychecks still come in as usual... Now that's what i call cool.
But than again, try finding another companie out there in the trucking industry, that'll give you fully loaded Peterbuilts, and pays for every single shower you take, and pays for a rental car, for you to go to des moines to meet your trainer, and such... If you find one with better benefits, better fleet (now this one i highly doubt) better pay (one more thing... lol) and better interaction with their drivers, Let me know.
Yes, to some it will be overwhelming what TMC requires of them, and no worries there eighther, those ppl will be driving. Swift, CRST, Roehl, Schneider, there's a ton of other "van" carriers out there, that'll get you in a truck asap... But are you safe? Have you learned something about the industry? Do you have a fully loaded Pete?
Merry Christmas!

The PrePass thing is mostly annoying.
The $100 is OK, after all it is an asset that the driver could throw out the window, it is returned when the box is returned.
The $2.50 per week. Many states offer a discount on EZ-Pass access of between 5-10%. I would love to know the fuel cost of coming to a complete stop, possible waiting in a line, then getting up to speed - as opposed to passing through a toll lane. There also has to be some administrative savings on NOT processing toll receipts; processing and payroll clerks, TripPak costs, and document storage. I live and work mostly on the east coast so I pay it and grumble a little.
As to the BC/BS policy? As a former business owner, health insurance is an big expense. As a best guess, TMC is probably paying 80+ % of the total costs, an average in business. It doesn't matter about the $500 deductable, it's either that or you pay with higher premiums. Either way the insurance company makes out, not the business. With the new flex plan you can at least get a pre-tax deduction, saving you $. I would rather have a BC/BS policy with a $500 deductable than a frikken HMO, any day. |

Nice photos - they are helpful for remembering some of the securing techniques. TMC should offer a handbook on securement procedures during the orientation process.
I've been posting photos of the loads I've been hauling while training. They will come in handy when I'm driving solo and I want to refresh my memory.

TMC is currently testing a Qualcomm-type system in the truck that is Windows XP based, has a dash mounted full color touch screen monitor, printer and scanner all integrated within a system that will display on demand how to secure any load by using pictures and audio/video clips. Bills of Lading will print out in the truck and signed delivery receipts will be scanned and transmitted back to TMC eliminating much of the TripPak nonsense we all do day to day. The system will include a touch screen GPS navigation system and lots of other goodies too. I had the opportunity to "play" with one in a truck while in Des Moines and let me tell you..... It was AWESOME!!! |

We were told about these, ten trucks have them right now. By all accounts TMC will be going with them in the very near future. |

| I highly reccomend prepass to any linehaul drivers that live on the EC you will really want that ezpass feature to pay tolls as they rack up quick. As for the prepass it saves you time, time is money! I am more than happy to pay the $2.50 a week, its tax deductable and it is so worth it. |
