Anyone have the details on the sliding pay scale? They say starting out at .35 for 0-600 then .32 for 601-900, if you get a run with say 800 paid miles, is the whole run at the lower rate or just the last 200?

The entire run (empty & loaded) is based on the length of haul for the loaded miles.

So, if you had a deadhead of 1,000 miles and 200 miles of empty, you'd get paid 1,200 miles at the 200 mile rate.

On the flipside, if you deadhead 10 miles, and run 800 loaded, you'd get paid 810 miles at the 800 mile rate.

From personal experience with them, the average length of haul is in the range of 420-450 miles, in case you wondered that as well. I was on the Xpress Direct account, which is their expedited freight division. I think most of the other divisions (except for teams) is about the same.

Thanks for the reply, It's been a long time but when I drove in '92 that was the average run. I'm really thinking about trying to go with them sometime after the first of the year.

Thanks again.

Might be a little confusing to read, but here's US Xpress's regional/48 states pay scale, straight from a recruiter.

The rate goes like this: The farthest left rate is 0-300 miles, the next one is 301-600 miles, the next is 601-900, the last is 901+

0 Months 0.35 0.35 0.32 0.25
3 Months 0.37 0.37 0.33 0.28
6 Months 0.37 0.37 0.33 0.30
1 Year 0.41 0.37 0.34 0.32
2 Years 0.415 0.375 0.345 0.33
3 Years 0.42 0.38 0.35 0.34
4 Years 0.425 0.385 0.355 0.35
5+ Years 0.43 0.39 0.36 0.36

I would have made it look a bit prettier, but I didn't feel like busting out my HTML book :D

Actually, if you run shorter hauls, of course your mileage will suffer. But, in the world of trucking, sometimes you have to take short hauls to get in a better location for a longer haul. In this sense we run the sliding pay scale to keep your pay up for running those short hauls. I've never had anyone call me to complain about the pay scale once they've been hired :D

US Xpress sliding pay scale is basically a reasonable deal. I'm a lease op with xd. I was a co. driver before that. I wish they truly cared about the drivers. It's all about the driver making the company look good at any cost. They give me good trips just to take them away because some one in the office made a mistake. Just don't you make a mistake because they will make your life miserable. Just my experiences.

Forget the sliding scale BS. From the driver's seat, miles are miles and should be paid based on experience and tenure with the company. Nuff said on that score.

Yup, thats exactly what it is..... and the drivers get "hosed". Such a deal!! And considering that they are still paying it as "HHG miles" really makes it so "sweet"...... NOT!!

I've heard on another forum that you only get paid the miles that YOU haul the trailer....so if it's already been that first 600 miles, you get paid crap for what you have to haul it! Changed my mind real fast!!!
