I've noticed people have alluded to this a time or two in other posts, but the question is... "How many of you consciously and deliberately disguise, alter, or otherwise change your voice when you talk on the CB?"
In other words, how many of us really do talk like a cross between Festus from "Gunsmoke" and Roy D. Mercer, and how many of us are just talking that way on the CB in order to "blend in?" |

| Just like the folks that live around Yoopr, where I come from in Central Wisconsin have a unique accent. And, believe me, there's no hiding it. Not much point in trying to change anything. The accent is a dead giveaway anyhow. |

What are ya trying to say? All of us Texas waddies talk like a bunch of hicks? :P Ok,maybe we do. :P I talk normal. However normal that is. It does seem odd that there are so many guys out there that have such a deep voice. I did come across a voice changing box thingamajig at a truck stop several years ago. I would have bought it,but it cost something like,$80. :P It had a couple of buttons that you could change your voice to either a low pitch,or high pitch. After seeing that,it made me wonder if all these deep sounded talking guys really made themselves talk like that,or they all had those boxes in their trucks. I have not ever seen that voice box thingy ever sinse. |

I know guys who do this- I think it's so silly- talking with that "cool" tone of voice to show all the other cb'ers how cool you are!
I don't use my handle much either, though... |

| I'm working at a local company now, about 15 drivers total, and one of them has that typical "Super Trucker" voice and accent that you hear so much of on the CB. He's one of the guys that yaks endlessly, and is always asking for bear reports. Yet when I talk to him in person he sounds nothing at all like that. Things that make me go hmmm..... 8) |

| I talk with a nice baritone sound in my voice in real life. On the CB, I talk the same way but it comes out sounding like an 80 year old man with the pitch being much higher. |

Unfortunately I'm still in the rookie phase of my career,I use a box stock cobra24[I think]that came with the truck I drove five years ago.It has a stock mic on it.The new truck I drive had no radio or antennas,so
I scrounged up what I could find in our garage, unfortunately the antennas are different sizes and colors.I've not been able to afford new radio equipment,I have a family to care for. However I think with my income tax check this year I'm going to invest in one antenna to match up,and if I can find a good used voice and handle combo cheap,I just may splurge!better yet maybe I'll come across one with echo, now thats TRUCKIN'!!! |
