I see plenty of web sites and companies out there that offer employment for otr work but what about a web site that list companies that offer home daily and/or local work?
It seems as if only the state schools that are training you have the inside scoop on which companies are offering these jobs, particularly for recent grads. I see a few ads here and there in my local papers, but all want experienced drivers.

OTR hires the most student drivers by far, and that is a simple fact which is why you hear so much about it.

As far as those few local driving jobs that hire students they go to the source which is the school.

If you are interested in working for a particular company in your area then go in and talk to them. Some companies like Yellow, UPS, etc may have you work the dock for a time before moving you into a driving position but at least you would have your foot in the door, but who knows. You might luck out and get the type of job you want by just making it known what it is you are wanting.

Some sources of local postions that you may never hear about or rarely do that may hire students or limited experience drivers are garbage haulers, area lumber yards, supply companies, beverage companies, local fruit/veggie companies, furniture stores, etc.

Its going to be tough for you to get a local job with no experience. Not impossible, but tough. And the local jobs you find that will hire you might not be worth having. Think about it this way. There are a lot of OTR drivers out there with tons of experience who are tired of the road and want to run local now. If there was a great local job open in your area, why would that company hire you instead of the experienced driver?
Your best bet would be run OTR for 3 to 6 months and pay your dues, so to speak. Then a few local jobs will open up for you. Its just like any other career....the more experience you have the more choices you will have for work.

I know ABF will hire you on the dock, and then train you to drive in the city. Most linehaul LTL jobs require two years. There is a couple other carriers that have similar programs.

Conway will take new drivers. Expect some dock work.
