For a driving job I would keep it to an hour each way if it was a home daily type of thing.

If it was a home weekly or every two weeks deal where I had to leave the truck at the terminal I would keep it to two hours each way.

Reason being is that I would not want to work a 14 hour day and then have a long commute.

I was considering a 6 hour drive two times a week to get my old job back. I could stay in the sleeper on Friday nights and leave to come home first thing Saturday morning. I'd have to be back Tuesday by 1 pm or first thing Wednesday (again, staying in the sleeper at work) every week.

I did love this job, though. A lot.

My girlfriend was offered an excellent position 6 hours away and could not say no. This offer came the week after I took the job I was talking about. I stayed 3 months longer after she left and in the end it was stupid to have 2 households even though my expenses were under $900 a month. So I moved up here with her.

I miss that job...

man, thats a lot of gas weekly and miles on your car. Assuming you are talking about 6 hours being about 360 miles, that would mean 720 a week, or 37440 miles a year you are putting on your car. I dont know what kind of car you drive, but putting those kinds of miles on a car is going to make that cars value go down big time. So when you add the cost of gas and the depreciation of the value of your car, you need to figure out if it worth it. A 40,000 a year job, might really only be 25 grand a year when you figure in all the costs. Plus you have to look at other things....say you have car trouble. Its not like you can call your buddy from work or down the street and ask for a ride.

perosnally, i wouldnt do it....buts thats just me....i drive 10 minutes to work and sometimes i think thats too far...lol

I was just considering going back. I'm sure I would have looked at the numbers and said no.
