Whay does it seem the company driving mills they all want you to come on over THEN they will run your background, MVR, and check employment?
It costs them money to do this, and seems like a waste of both time and money to get you there THEN check you out!
And yes, I am aware that some checks take time.
BUT I have applied to 2 schools 3 weeks ago. I am supposed to decide within the next 2 weeks who to go with. That is 5 weeks until I show up!
One has pulled my MVR, the other hasn't pulled any info yet!
Is there a company that will check you out and approve you BEFORE you trek 500 miles to their school. It may cost them a little jingle, but I can't waste time and what little money I don't have to try to get training.
I do have a misdemeanor from 9 years ago. I would hate to have a recruiter blow sunshine up my @ss just to find out I can't complete the training.
What should I do? I called a school for CR England and applied. They want a copy of the citation from '97. None of the others seem to even care or it seems they will care after I sign a contract. |

Keep in mind that if you are "discharged" from training you will have to find your own way home.
You can talk to the recruiter to make sure that it won't be an issue. I imagine with a lot of companies that one 9 year old misdemeanor won't be a problem. |

I have searched on CR...
I don't like them much. But they are the only ones that act like they are checking all the needed req's before asking me to come to school. |

I hear ya, but I don't have any conviction records other than a "resisting arrest" and I got like 4 hours community service, and that was only for telling a cop to kiss my a** when he was out of line. (I told this to my recruiter and he said if that's all, np.)
I realize our situations are different as I'm also only 65 miles from the school I'm going to attend going west on I80 (I live 3 miles off I80), and 70 miles, going east, from the orientation terminal in Lathrop. I'm also married and my wife has a great paying job, so worse comes to worse, I find another line of work, besides, my manager at my current part time job, at Enterprise Rent A Car, said if things don't work out, I am always welcome to come back. (I learned the hard way, DON'T burn bridges.)
Just be totally up front and talk to the company you're thinking of working for, everything up front. You can probably go to your local PD and get a printout of your record and fax that to Company recruiter. Tell your PD what you need and why and they should be able to accommodate you.
You could also call an attorney and ask them if they can run a Lexus Nexus on ya and if so how much to get a printout. After you get the printout - fax it to the recruiter. It's a lot cheaper than a 500 mile one way trip for nothing. I hope this helps. |

The two big reasons some companies wait until you show up to run your background check is that all too often people do not show up and the other is that they want the most recent information available.
Companies that do run background checks before you go to orientation will run either partial or full ones again once you are in orientation.
Unless they have changed Swift is one company that runs checks before offering to have you attend orientation and/or their school. |
