We were delivering equipment to a rock quarry on top of a mountain in NJ about 15 miles from the towers. From where we were we all stood and watched them fall. Couldn't forget if I wanted to.

WOW a few of us were pretty close together as I was in Fort Worth TX. Still in the Navy stationed at NAS/JRB Fort Worth and was the Duty Section Leader on 9/11/01. Just came into the duty office from morning colors (raising the flag for those that dont know the term) and saw it on the TV, I asked the watch what was going on and he had no clue (TV was behind him). Watched the second plane hit and knew the world was changing....

I went into the drivers lounge at a Flying J. Just as I sat down, the second plane hit. Most thought they were watching a moving. There were quite a few drivers watching TV and talking. I told them what had happened. Initially, some didn't believe me. When they realized that it really did happen, you could have heard a pin drop. We all just sat around and watched the report. Everything on the East Coast came to an abrupt halt.

I had an opportunity to meet a woman driver who was delivering to the WTC when it happened. Part of the building fell on her. She told me that one of the men who saved her was later killed. She is the only person I recall meeting who was actually there and survived. She said that she only got burned. She was one lucky driver. It was a very sobering experience to have met and talked with her.

One of the Most amazing sights I've ever seen is that I ended picking up a Load in Laredo and when I was Again heading north on 35 I looked in my Mirrors and I saw the Largest Flag I have ever seen flying at Half-Mast-It was the Mexican Flag on the Border.

Came up to that Check point and Customs all had their M16's and this was one day you DIDN'T try to joke with them. Sternest faces I have seen in a very long time.

I had just gotten out of the shower when my father called from his part-time job at a local Super 8 Motel. He said to turn on the TV as a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I turned it on and saw all the smoke and flames and a few minutes later the second plane it. I knew then what was going on and who was responsible. It's something I'll never forget!

I don't understand the "Never Forget' phrase. I don't see how people could forget. If you walk up to anyone and say what is 9/11, i'm sure they'd know.

I was in Bird City,KS,on the fall harvest. I was outside, checking the oil,and water on my truck, and Tommy, our owner came up to me,and he told me that I better get a uniform, and get ready to sign up. Of course,I didnt have the foggiest idea as to what he meant, then,he told me that they bombed the World Trade Center. Me,being a dumb country boy,I had no clue what the World Trade Center was at that time. I closed the hood on the truck, and went in the travel trailer, and we watched it on tv. I couldnt believe why anyone would do that. I was so shocked. That is something that you see in movies, and here it happened.

Yes sir,let us not forget that day. May our prayers, and thoughts be with our troops serving our country.

I guess it's no surprise.... on that Tuesday morning, I was, as always, on the golf course with my Dad. We were on the 5th green, laying 2 (out of par 4.) I was about to putt, and my Dad's cellphone rings! I HATE cellphones, especially on golf courses, but I instantly knew something had changed.

It was my Mom, telling us about the first plane, as the second one hit. My Dad became as serious as I've ever known him. He knew that many of his "flock" would be in panic or pain, and his "ministry" required him to abandon such a silly past-time as golf to go be available to them.

But, we BOTH sank our par putts on that hole, and moved on. We played 3 or more holes BECAUSE they were on the way IN, while he thought about it in HIS way, and I, in mine.

He left when we got to the "turn" near the parking lot, and I decided to DEFY these "sons with no fathers" and play on. I hit the best shots of my life, and shot PAR or less on the "back nine."

Then, I went home and disappeared into my world of 24 HR news. As EVERY Veteran here did.... I was ready to pack a bag and go fight 'em!

I had allready "beat" them by living my life in total "disregard" for their petty hatreds.

Will I ever forget??? NO. Everytime I step on that green, I remember that pivotal day! Heck.... EVERY day I get up and drive, the events of the World will not LET me forget that day!

Yoopr, you really nailed the Topic for this thread.... for this, even MORE so than Pearl Harbor, is the Day that will live in Infamy! This DAY, that we remember on this 5th anniversary, more than ANY other, may have been the Day that will change the World.

But.... in What way? (philosophical question, NOT political comment.)

But, as we remember the day, and it's events, and how it changed us... and the World,

Let us not forget the Thousands of American Martyrs of that day (and those of Pearl Harbor.) Those NOT in uniform, (taking the risk they signed up for,) but the innocent American civilian (inhabitant) of this country.... who died ONLY* because he/she dared to live FREE!

And, though no more important in terms of human life than the others, we must be inspired and awakened to our history and culture by those HEROES of Flight 93 who, with only moments warning, took on the mantle of Freedom's defense, and fought BACK!!

In a global World of economic bliss, personal satisfaction, and opulence... it amazes and inspires me that there are still Americans who will "take up the sword" when called upon... to defend this country! Here.. Here..!! (Or is it.... Hear! Hear! :?: )

We were content to live peacefully, and give millions of dollars to help these 3rd World countries, and THIS is how they thank us!

In the words of those on Flight 93 (whether they actually said them or not,)

LET'S ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
