Since my company rules prohibit the legal carry of a firearm, I would NEVER, EVER carry one.
The gun I don't carry in the truck, and that is not on my right hip right now, even though I have a Texas Concealed Handgun License, is a 2nd Gen. Glock model 20 10mm Auto. Since I don't carry it, it doesn't matter that it has a 15rd magazine filled with DoubleTap ammo 165grn Speer Gold Dot (1400fps/ 718ft/lbs), plus one in the chamber and two extra 15rd mags, which I don't have on my left hip right now, because I don't carry the gun, right? The gun I don't carry also has Big Dot tritium sights, a Wolff 22# recoil spring and extra-power firing pin spring, a Glock 3.5# connector/NY1 trigger set-up, and extended mag catch, slide lock, and slide release levers. But I don't carry it, of course. Not in the Comp-Tac C.-T.A.C. IWB holster in summer months, and definitely not in the Comp-Tac Settable Cant holster or Tucker Gunleather HF2 OWB holsters in jacket weather. Definitely not on the Wilderness 5 Stitch belt.
I do, however, always have some Fox Labs 5.3 OC spray, known to my Dallas SWAT team friend Mike as "Blister in a Can". I usually have the 4oz can on my belt with a Stanley Sport Utility knife/utility blade combo. The Stanley is my do anything knife, but I also have a Gerber folder in my right pocket. Because it's a nice knife.
I have a 2oz Fox 5.3 can in my overhead console in front of me.
I also have the ol' BarJan Tire Thumper, which might make a good head thumper in a pinch. I always have that at truck stops, rest areas, and other potentially shaky locales when I'm outside the truck. Clubs are illegal in Texas, but tire thumpers aren't, since they are used to thump tires, right?
While we're on the subject, Texas is about to pass the "Stand Your Ground" legislation which means you will have the right to meet force with deadly force when you perceive a serious threat. No longer will you have a duty to retreat. Yay.

My boss doesnt care if I carry a weapon or not, and since I can legally carry anywhere in the USA, I do. I dont brandish it around, I just have it with me in the truck if needed.
If you want the truck you can have it, but your not going to kill me for giving it to you. |

WOW! I remember down there when they would not even allow the police of chief to carry a concealed firearm. I believe it was the guy after Gates.
I know they would never allow me or others to carry for protection! They just would not issue permits.
Isn't your permit only good for the state? Or do all states honor it?

It is a relatively new law with certain restrictions for retired LEO. |

It is very hard to get a CCW in California....very hard. I dont know of any that the department that I worked for ever handed out. I think at one time a reserve officer didnt have the authority to carry off duty and the chief issued all of them CCWs but that is it.
They are still working the bugs out of the Federal Statute that allows us to carry everywhere, but in the mean time I dont know of any dept anywhere that is not allowing it. |

I once got my 38 taken away from me courtesy of the LAPD. The judge really liked me and I was lucky. They kept the gun and gave me 100 hours of community service.
I believe that LEO cannot protect the public. And if your dead that is when they step in. I guess you know that and that is why you have your permit.
Heck Ed Davis had armed police guarding his home and patrols would come by all the time. With that type of protection I would feel safe too!
I don't have a permit up here. I am thinking of buying a gun and getting a permit to carry as I heard that BIG LOTS was robbed the other night by gunpoint.
If more responsible citizens armed themselves people would not be so apt to commit the crimes as they would not know who does and who does not have a gun.

I had to go to Dallas once on an investigation. I called ahead to let them know we would be working in their city and would be armed. The Lt on duty told me that it was a good thing because everyone else in town would be too......
I love Texas.... :) |
