Hey Uturn - is there a reason you're chasing me around the board answering questions with the exact same answer that I'm giving? :P

I've been thinking of the hammock for quite some time now. I, personally, have little trouble sleeping in a moving truck, but I keep getting team co-drivers who whine all the time!

Why not mount the hammock over (or in place of) the lower bunk in a condo type cab??

Seems to ME, that this would be an excellent way for someone to sleep INSIDE the cab (not UNDER IT) without feeling vibrations, ESPECIALLY while the truck is moving!?

Everytime the driver hits the brakes, the hammock would "swing" a bit. Talk about "rocking the baby" to sleep!

This is a no-brainer, IMHO.... ALL sleeper cabs (especially for TEAM operations,) should be equipped with a hammock in place of a stationary BUNK!!

They can easily be "anchored" to the opposing walls, and "stabilized" if necessary to the rear wall.

1) Have you tried the hammock inside a moving truck?

2) The way to get rid of vibrations is to balance the wheels, use superwides instead of duals and/or use non-lug type tyres.

Also, upgrade to an aftermarket harmonic balancer.

Then, the next step, the first step really, is to eliminate ALL of the noise. I don't see how anyone can sleep like that.

What company driver would pay for all this? I know I wouldn't. But I guess you would.

JD- I think you have management potential. The big outfits like Swift and Schneider and others are always looking to cut costs. If they go for your idea they don't need to buy rigs with sleepers anymore. Just hang this thing under the trailer, in winter get get a sleeping bag and pass along a pay raise of a penny a mile. WAMO you are the new Vice President of Cost Containment. Good Job! Dude. Bill

I've never seen an "aftermarket" one - who makes one and where can you get it? I have seen a mercury filled balancer that goes under the stock harmonic balancer.

Pittsburg power sells aftermarket balancers.

I don't got the link right now, but they should be easy to find on the web.

Yah, that's the one that I mentioned - it is an add-on, not an aftermarket replacement for the harmonic balancer (AKA viscous damper). I just scored a new O.E.M. damper off of eBay for $100 - about 1/4 what the dealers charge  8) . I'm thinking of seeing if I can fit one of the centramatic balancers under it - I can get four of them for $180 so it would be a whole lot cheaper than that $400 mercury job 8) , especially if I can sell off the other three :) .
