Just adding my 2 cents on trucks that fail pre-trips. I usually keep a copy of my inspection report, give one to the company and tell them that the truck is out of service. Having my copy of the inspection report to give to the authorities upon request. This usually forces them to fix the problems or face stiff fines because there is proof on file that they knew about the problem.

However, I did know one guy working for a company that tried to force him on the road with a defective truck. He just smiled and at the first open inspection station, requested a level one inspection of the truck. He lost some time, the company got the fine.

Ditto.

Old does not mean unsafe and new does not mean safe.

A 45 minute pretrip, if performed properly will make it clear if your vehicle is safe or not. You do not need to run them to the shop, or down to the DOT.

All you need to do is to understand that your life is on the line and then you need to walk away.

No trailer, tractor, or load is worth your life.

Second that- If you feel its unsafe or better yet if there are things wrong that are DOT violations, note it on ur pretrip, inform the co. that the truck needs repairs ( give them a copy of the pretrip). If they ask you to drive the truck as is, or even require you to drive it, call the DOT to come out to inspect it on site. COVER UR ASS
