I'm looking at a 2001 VNL64T770 with a N14 460.
$30k 990,000 miles one owner
in-frame rebuild, trans rebuild, clutch, brakes, turbo, intercooler, done within last 60k miles
What should I pay? Also the driver still runs this truck on a 3000 mile a week run and has ordered a new trk.
I have not yet looked in person
Bring it on guys.........!!
Be critical......

$30k
I don't think it is worth much over half that with almost one million miles.
Offer $15,000, possibly dicker up towards $20,000. If he turns down $20,000 walk away and have him call you if he comes to his senses.

Here is how I arrive at that:
Quote: 2001 VNL64T770 with a N14 460. 990,000 miles
You can get these million mile trucks for about $10,000.
Quote: in-frame rebuild, trans rebuild, clutch, brakes, turbo, intercooler
I would value that about $10,000. Sure it cost more than that but that was 60,000 miles ago. You don't need to pay the labor on all those repairs from that long ago, only the value of the new parts. Parts warranties usually don't transfer from one owner to another. |

I have been looking for listings of lower priced high mile trks. Where should I be looking staying in the 2000 to 2003yr area for these $10,000 units.

He came down to $25000.00 without me having seen the truck. So something between 20 and 25k should be achievable. I still feel pretty good about the tractor...a real positive is that he is using it. There are not that many 770s out there, lots of 66" narrow sleepers. I would much rather put some cash into a million mile single owner truck as opposed to spending 40k for 700 to 800k miles which may be no more dependable and may still need lots of repairs.

I'm flying to Nashville tonight to see the Volvo. If it checks out I'll be driving it back and will then be signed on as an owner operator with Roehl running flats and curtainside.
I'll be throwing out some more questions since I'm sure I'll find a few maintainence issues.
Thanks again everyone for all your help and input.

Who did the inframe and when.
Is there any warranty left from the inframe.
If you really want to know pay to throw it on a dyno but you might want to cut an oil sample.
The cost of the dyno and sample is cheap considering the consequences.
I think that for 30,000 you might be able to do a bit better than that one. |

|
|
Since your talking about Volvo Trucks here, I thought I would ask for opinions on my 1996 Volvo W1A model tractor. This tractor has a CAT C-12 motor, I bought it at a reasonable price...IMHO. The tractor does have a lot of miles on it... 1.2k and had top end work at about 800k. Tractor runs great with only minor fix-it problems. I used one gal. of oil in 8k miles and I think some leaked out. Oil pressure is reading around 50-55 psi.
What are the good and the bad with this truck being a 1996 year truck?
I will be paid for in six months, and my payments are very low... only $800 per month. The exterior of the truck is not too bad, needs minor replacement stuff like new headlight complete as it's all cloudy, cost is around $300, needs new passanger fender, as hood is three parts, paint job not bad for the year of the truck.
Would it be worth keeping it and putting money in it, or pay it off and trade it in for a Internation 9900ix, or maybe a Freightliner xl, or a Peterbuilt.
Thanks |

I'm new to the whole owner operator thing but have always been into the older "paid for" vehicle thing. The key is to anticipate the part failure and replace it before it breaks. (Sometimes a imperfect science)
