Also talking to my mechanic he said the ISM is the new M11.

Its the ISM 370 engine, don't have the spec sheet in front of me right now and I don't recall what the torque was at.

Is the truck on your aviator the same one we are talking about because that truck might be all right if it isn't abused.

All right if the truck ether has 1,350 or 1,450 ft lbs of torque not bad for a dump truck I think it might be all right.

Quote: Truck was a Beneto fuel truck before so I'm assuming its been well serviced,

Assuming?? why not get the service records from Beneto? They have nothing to hide since they already got rid of it.

Also those trucks usually run 24/7 so they pretty much have been well used, after all they got rid of it for a reason.

Also they are very lighweight speced to haul the fuel and are NEVER off-roaded like a dump, personally I wouldn't touch it.

Don't know anything about the truck in question but I'm interested in the business of running a transfer dump around Sacramento. I'd like to hear what you've learned about the business and how well one could do with their own truck. The biggest thing I was looking at was the winter season and having to keep up those payments when the work slows down. Are there many companies that you can lease on with? Thanks.

I'm leasing on with Bobs Trucking off of Bradshaw Rd in Sacramento, they are very nice and helpful for first timers like me, there are a few others in the area just gotta look for em. I purchased cheap so I wouldn't have a truck payment come winter. I'd be happy to PM ya (or post on here if others are interested as well) on how it goes. Last month most guys at Bobs took home 16k for the month after paying for the box/trailer lease and broker fees.

Floored, that PETE was some truck i wish someone sells something like this in arround my area as i am looking to get a new truck like that but the trade off for you is awsome as you are getting into another wonderful chapter of your life... best of luck with that.... :)

Thanks! Yeah that Pete took me 2 months to find and I had to fly to Kansas City, MO to get it. A good clean *used* truck is hard to find.

Yep its light, I know that and it will be fine. Like I said there are two others running these exact trucks at the company. Benento will not release maintance records. I have yet to find ANY used truck where it sells with complete maintance records. And as I said before, Donner Summit is worse "off roading" than where this truck will ever run.

Anyway, I decided I'm going to pass on the warranty. I have 10k in the bank for maintance if something goes out and would rather get the truck at the lower cost. Thanks for the opnions/ect.

Good luck with the new venture!

Do you have to purchase a dump box to go on the frame? Or, can you "lease" that along with the trailer? Just curious.

Later,
Jason

Sounds like a good job Floored, I wish you luck and would love to hear how it goes for you.

I'm knocking around what I want to do with my trucking future and I know I'll be buying a truck at some point but for now I'm going out on the road for at least a year or better to work the bugs out after finishing at Western Pacific. Today was my first day and looking forward to tomorrow. One day at a time.

Yeah the box and trailer are leased, my "lease" rate is a set at 12% each month of gross including the broker fees. If business is good down the road I may buy my own set but until I learn the biz I'm going to play it safe and keep the investment low.

Yeah I'll make a post as I get down the road on how the biz is working and whatnot since there isn't a ton of info out there for "dirt haulers". I'll only drive the truck a couple of months myself, after that I'll be home running things. I've gone out on a few runs so far with the company and other O/O's there and its cake. I wish I did this off the bat when I started out, but seeing the country was nice too and I got a lot of learning in over the past year going OTR. How did you like Western Pacific school? I went to Western Truck School myself. Did you get hired anywhere yet?

I buy the PTO/wet kit and they install for me when they do the box, if I leave they keep their box & trailer, I keep everything else. There is no charge for the install/take off on the box. I just pay them their percentage each month. Not a bad deal really, and its a nice box trailer set up, only a couple of years old.

Actually just started school so I don't even know how I like it but if it gets me my license I'll like it just fine. I drove a bit in the service but never got any "official" training so now I'm making up for lost time. I have a few recruiters sniffing around but nothing definite yet, my goal is to work for Gordon and they're coming in on Thursday so I've got my fingers crossed.

You know I can't remember the name, it is not NTP or a Freightliner warranty, its through some other company that requires you to run their special fluids in the truck. I'll get a name for you when I pick the truck up as a FYI.
