Starting today, when routed that way. 3 cent raise today as well.
My truck has 285 miles on the odometer right now.
All in all, a good week. |

Does Crete / Schaefer have a forced routing that you MUST FOLLOW?
Also they will save a lot of $$$ on fuel by running the toll roads on cruise control than stopping and starting all the time on "TURKEY TRAILS" |

The routing is "suggested", but the fuel stops are required stops. And since the routes seem to be built around the fuel stops rather then the most practical route, I would bet we don't see a lot of routes across the turnpikes, and as a result, no reimbursement for the tolls.
I am taking a wait and see on this one. |

| Well, I dropped in New Jersey this morning then deadheaded down to Vineland to pick up my next load going to Chicago and they did route me over 80, so I guess they are keeping their word. I can't see the fuel routing being any problem. Running the old way on the back roads they still had you fuel in Gary or Stony Ridge or Austintown and they are all on or very near the turnpikes. |

Wow, that is fantastic news... Pay increase and they are paying tolls now! Sounds pretty good to me. Did the pay increase also affect the training pay and the first year pay for new drivers?

I can't believe that a large fleet like Crete didn't cover those tolls. What was the reasoning behind not paying for those?
Come to think of it, that does explain why I saw so few Crete drivers on the 80/90 corridor across Indiana/Ohio. Glad "cheapskate" Stevens covered those tolls. |

I cannot help but think that the pay raise and paying tolls is part of a campaign to overcome the negative publicity and keep the company recruiting drivers. Their pay rate prior to this raise used to be among the higher pay among the carriers, but others have caught up and passed them. Practical miles was a bonus, but I think the bigger cpm numbers at other carriers was still digging into the recruiting bottom line numbers. Pure speculation on my part, but it would make sense.
So these are good moves as far as I am concerned. Now if they would put inverters, microwaves, and refridgerators in the trucks... or allow drivers to add them. OK, maybe I am just dreaming :)

So, are you saying Crete does not allow a minifridge or inverter in their trucks. I can't believe that. I'm thinking of moving to Crete .08 cents more per mile over Celadon and practical miles ($10K per year). But I'm not going to put up with no inverter or fridge!
Please any Crete driver, confirm, deny...? |

Don't confuse mini-fridges with plug in coolers. Mini-fridges have to be hardwired. You can have up to a 400w plug-in inverter or you can have Crete hardwire a 700w inverter, but it has to be their inverter which you buy from them. You also have to pay them to install it. |

Is the 700w inverter a new development? Seems like I remembered this past spring when I was looking at Crete, the only thing that was mentioned as available was the driver could have a 400w inverter. Is the 700w inverter capable of running a small microwave? I don't have a problem with using my plugin cooler as it seems to work well enough for me the few times I have used it on cross country trips in my POV. I guess it remains to be seen how well it will work for an extended period beyond the couple days straight I have used it so far.
This would be an awesome development if the 700w inverter could run a small microwave. For me personally one of the biggest downfalls with a lot of companies is they won't allow inverters that allow a driver to have the things needed to make life comfortable and convenient on the road. So I would love to hear what the 700w inverter is capble of running without overloading it...

| I honestly can't say if the 700w will run a microwave. This is not a new development at Crete, they have been offering this for as long as I have been with them (one year). As far as the price is concerned, all I can remember was that it wasn't cheap. I think the installation fee alone was something like $200. The downside is every time you switch out trucks you have to pay it again (which isn't too bad since it doesn't happen often). I do believe they let you spread the payments out over several weeks as well. |
