I haven't posted a lot, but lately I'm feeling like my husband needs to find a local job!! He's been driving for a year, and is only gone about 2 nights per week, and is home every weekend, so I do know that I am fortunate, so don't hate me!! BUT... we have a 3 year old son who is a daddy's boy, and every day when I pick him up from daycare, he asks me "Is my daddy home?" and it breaks my heart.. and after a year, I am burned out from breaking his little heart!! I tell my husband, and he understands, but we're trying to hang in for a few more months, unless something falls into his lap. He's looking for local, but has a felony (18 years ago), so his choices become limited. Aye yay yay.. sorry to vent!

Where in Michigan are you?

My hubby drives local and his company has terminals throughout lower Michigan.

You can PM me if you don't want to put it here ;)

Something that might help is to have Dad write postcards or letters out for his son and every day that he is not home you can pull one out and say "Look Daddy wrote to you. He's always thinking of you." You can also set up a time each night for Dad to call to talk to just him. Keeping that line of communication open is important and will help them both.

Also have lots of pictures for him. My youngest had a picture of his Dad in his pencil box at school since pre-K. Now he has a binder with pictures on the front of the family.

I get home for about 2 to 3 days, once every 2 to 3 months. After a couple of years, it's putting a strain on both of us. I'm looking at moving the truck to a company that has a terminal in FL so I can get home every two weeks.

Everyone's situation is hard to them, so don't feel badly about having your trucker home a lot. For a 2 year old it's still tough and so is having emotions on behalf of your kids.
Your man is out making a living - nothing heart breaking there - you have to explain it to your son that way. Daddy works just like all the rest of the world. Don't feel guilty or bad about it, it doesn't mean you son is loved any less.
And yes, tell your husband - communicate, Communicate, COMMUNICATE with the baby. Call home often, send post cards, have a special "date night" for the two of them. Bring him home treats from his route. If you and your son can put a positive spin on Dad being gone from home 2 - 3 nights a week it will help everyone deal!!
Good Luck! :)
