Hello,

I bought a 1977 GMC Astro 95 about three years ago. It had to have been repainted about four or five times so that the finish was really thick and gloppy looking. I took the cab down to bare aluminum and I would like to get it painted.

Can anyone give advice as to what to look for in a truck body shop? Are there any ideas as to even a rough ballpark of what it would cost to properly prime and paint a cabover?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Nathan,

I have a 1980 GMC Astro and it cost me close to $1000 for a prime and new paint at a place locally. Painting aluminum only requires good surface prep and the correct primer for adhesion. Any good car body shop should be able to do it provided they have a bay that will hold it. Expect to add another $400 for a clear cloat and another $400 if you want it baked and not air dried.

Question: Where do you find parts for your GMC like window and door seals and other things like interior fittings. I am having the hardest time finding parts. I'd appreciate any direction you might have.

Thank you,
Dustin
