Ladies pls send some advice my way! I graduated in '03 from truckdriving school and had a bad experience with the company (in TX) I went with at that time. Came back home and picked up former job (desk jockey). Want to get back into driving but have no experience at all. Everything I've learned is basically a lost memory. Haven't seen the inside of a truck since '03....See a lot of women driving for Werner and USXpress where I live but the paperless logs (W) and autoshift (U) scares me because other companies are the opposite.....Have looked at Roehl's site but unsure about it.........Any suggestions for me to look into? (I'm a 35 yr old, single parent of a teenager). And the local companies are out because they want experienced drivers(especially if they've been OTR a great number of years)....believe me I've checked around!........All information would be greatly appreciated. :) Post here or PM. Thanks!

From my experience on this board, I believe you'll have to re-school. Not sure what your chances would be of just going out with a trainer but my guess is not good.
Autoshifts are a pain in the arse but not hard to get used to.

try calling SEVERAL company's before you decide on which company or give up .... alot of company's will take you on and train you since it's only been a couple of years for you .... the cut off time is 5yrs .. after that you'll have to go back to school ..... Schneider has a rather good training program. Werner doesn't have many female trainers so there could possibly be a waiting time .

Don't hire on with any one until you check out Falcon, they are the way to go for starters in my opinion.
Call Bill Hasely at 1-800-533-5505 xt. 200 , he is the manager of the West Middlesex PA terminal and he will answer all of your questions no matter how long it takes.
I like Falcon and don't think there is a beytter starter company out there.
They get me home every weekend and after a short while you can get on dedicated routes.
Doesn't matter where you live. ]
Give them a call.
I would send yopu to a recruiter but they have a tendacy to stretch the truth.
If you pick Falcon , it would be appreciated if you give me as a refereal so I can make a few extra bucks. My employee number is 8080 Randy Justice.
Good luck and God Bless.

Companies to check out... You said you looked at Roehl. How about Millis or CFI? I've never worked for CFI, but I have heard some things that I feel good about. Might consider going there if I ever leave where I am now. But I'm at a VERY HARD company to beat.

And, if you're going to talk to FALCON, you might want to talk to Jagerbomber as well. He's leaving there. Unhappy. You might want to find out why before you commit yourself there.

Well, I've been doing some checking in my spare time. Millis Transfer looks very promising. Since they have their own school I'd have to come out of pocket $500 and the $2000 would be waived if I gave them a year. They have a low student to trainer ratio. Plus their Kennessaw, GA terminal is closest to me. Even though I already have my CDL-A I'd feel more comfortable starting over. A lot has changed since I got them back in '03. The HOS still bogs my mind. :?

What the best practical miles or HHG miles?

Any other companies to look at? And any tips on that doing that logbook now?

Also have been looking at Western Express. If you already have a CDL but no experience they have a "Learn while you earn" program for about 5 weeks (don't know if a cost goes with that yet). Does anybody have any opinions about this company? Their out of TN. I see them quit a bit on my way to and from my non-trucking job. :?:

Really sure this is a good decision to go out on the road with a teen ager still at home?

If you want to know about Roehl for women, please send me a private message. I will do my best to answer you. Have some patience in getting my response as I don't have time out on the road to answer.

Yes, it's a good idea. I've been wanting to since she was 8 and have been trying since she was 12. We both live with my Grandmother and my Mom's lives only 5 miles away. So there's no problem there. And there's a company close to home where I'd be home every weekend but I can't get any training because they don't put males and females together in a truck unless their married. So I'm trying to get my feet wet and after awhile try again with them. But I still don't want to be out forever and never get home. Two weeks is understandable. So I'm trying to find a company that has a terminal close around the state of AL if at all possible.
